Rated recovery hooks

Anyone got suggestions or recomendations as to where I can get rated recovery hooks to suit the front of an 80 series Landcruiser. Thanks in advance.

If you've got an after market bar on the car - 90% chance your local ARB store will have rated recovery points (hooks) to suite. If you do not, it will depend on the model (IFS or non-IFS) as to what will suit. ARB may still be able to help.

If your handy. You typically can get a rated recovery hook from SuperCheap Auto and fit them yourself.

The 80 should already have them on it, there should be 2 on the front and 2 on the rear, they came like that from the factory, if they were removed you might need to find out why, have a look under the vehicle at where the points are located, and see if there is any damage. They bolt up under the chassis and should be hoop sytle points.

Are they rated?? They look like a bit of bent 10mm rod to me.

They're tie down points only. Toyota will not tell they are for recovery. They are not rated.

Lets wind the clock back a few years to when the 80 was new, Toyota rated them then as recovery points, BUT now days you will find it hard for any vehicle maker to actually say they are rated, this is due to law sutes filed against them from stupid people getting injured by doing stupid things (mainly in USA).
So in short they were rated back in the 90's (when the 80 series came out), todays vehicles recovery points are not rated for this reason. which is why there is a market out there for recovery points.

I agree with Crooza, they are not rated these days but I have never seen one fail and we have used them for years with an equalizer strap in sand recoveries. Thats on a 100 series too, a bit heavier than an 80. My mate tells me he can remember of one 'ripping' through the rod after pulling the rod from a circle to a point. For me the rod looks plenty strong enough for normal recoveries, now if your stuck in sticky mud with a trailer on the back and jack-knifed around a tree, I would probably use a different point to pull the car from.

BCF Had 'em the other day

$18 for black, $22 for chrome

FYI, painting 'em bright red or yellow helps find 'em in the mud, so long as it's not too deep :p

the way i see it, if its not stamped into the casting, its not rated. Most standard loops are transportation tie down points only, therefore DO NOT use as a recovery point. Iv seen these fly through radiators and back windows. and i have mates on this forum to back it up! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE invest in at least 1 on the front and rear.

Most Nissans I've seen only have recovery points for Toyotas on the back, I'm not sure if these need to be rated or not....

That pathetic hoop thing on the back, good for tying ya horse to and that's about it!!

Mind you, I'de trust it more than the loop thingy's on the front of a cruiser!!

No one can argue with that if you've actually looked at both.

Just for an update on this. Went to a 4wd place yesterday and got a pair of recovery points which I've been told are rated to 10,000kg. Fitted them today where the original tie down points were using high tensile bolts.

Thanks bainsy, glad I done it, saves having to rely on those factory Toyota things. And with the recovery hook for the tow bar, I know I'm right.
