Ranger Raptor 2018 - 157kW 500Nm - do you feel ripped off?

My bet is manufacturers will get some sort of tax concession for using
a smaller greener engine package, possibly a reduced import duty or similar.

I was saying earlier the US has enviro laws that spread their compliance (US version of Euro6 etc) over the entire range. Sometimes making an 'efficient' SUV is how they would deal with an inability to improve numbers in the rest of the range. IIRC, the numbers each year had to improve, and I think if they improve an SUV its a weighted gain, that is its worth more in credit than improving an already efficient buzzbox. Although that might no longer be valid legislation, and I might not be accurate on it in the first place but its what I seem to recall.

Since Ford Aus is no longer, we will be subject to that now in that Ford US have to make this option to count, and need to offset its cost by flogging it in a market somewhere.

I agree, ideally i think a bigger motor would be nicer. However, consider that these twin turbo engines with multi speed autos actually spend a lot of time at low revs, which is good for longevity. As long as they keep the temperatures under control, and things like bearings etc are built tough enough, longevity might be a surprise.

But it also might not, not because of the size necessarily, but because they simply didnt try to build it to last that long. These engines arent hand me downs from trucks like a fair few have been.

Just don't call it a Raptor and people will be ok with it. Interestingly the HSV Sportscat or whatever it's called has very similar enhancements as the Raptor. People complained that the 2.8l was left untouched but seeing as how it is almost on par with the Ford 2l I wonder if HSV had some inside word on what Ford were planning?
When will they release this HSV?
I havent seen anything like this raptor yet.

I was waiting for this Raptor ranger to turn up from what I see state side.
I guess I will hang on to the Canyon until a V6 version of it becomes available.
Even if the Raptor is as good as they claim. 2500kgs is not doable with my boat

Well for a start they have to get rid of all their leftover leather trimmed seats from the V8's :)

Apart from some nice interior logos & sticker pack will either be worth the price premium over a normal model with a few mods ?
I thought Toyota created the term originaly back in 2005 with SUV , Sports Utility Vehicle ?????
That has morphed into another meaning over time , now its a Sports Truck species that has been born ?
I find the whole process totally amusing and is all good fun seeing how it's a Game Changer :D
Like everything else in life these days its just dumbing the product down to suit marketing & sales .
I know its been designed for Australian Conditions , with Input ? from Australian Engineers on the suspension setup .
Thats great , but why does it have Baja Mode  Im sure we have heaps of American style sand dunes that we go flat stick forever getting big air and great Facebook pics of turns with sand flying everywhere. Awesome !

Hmm. If it still has leaves, conventional shocks and suspension, 31" tyres, still a narrow track......then its just not in the league of the raptor offroad.
The yanks are big on suspension and what it can do. Australians havent caught on yet, and dare i say are kinda head in the sand about it. The raptor may well just change some minds.

Hey Spooner,
Your knuckles seem suspiciously overly hairy. Is that a 'New Ford' thumbs up?

Track has been widened, suspension upgraded, bigger offroad tyres, increased ground clearance, better brakes, incorporated recovery hooks, new seats and different exterior look. Doesn't go as far as the Raptor but it's in the ballpark.

Probably a massive improvement on previous models but massive let down on engine performance and towing.
Still, only about 50kw, 100nm and 1000kg off a decent set of figures, certainly not insignificant :(

I thought the raptor was supposed to be a performance off road vehicle, so sure they may have done the suspension but without doing something decent about the engine then its just a half done job IMHO. I certainly wouldn't want a quick diesel if I was buying that sort of 4x4 - I'd want a bullshit quick petrol

Maybe 60k would be a better price, but if they only do it as a high end model its kinda against the point of working it offroad.

From my thinking the posers wont like the thought of the engine, but really it wont matter. Sure a V8 sounds better, but thats not a big part of posing these days, and people can just think you are a wankler.

The people that genuinely take them off road would also prefer a bigger motor, but again it wont really matter, and they will appreciate the good fuel economy. We dont have big cities next to deserts like the usa, we have to travel, and there are big distances between fuel stations.

Will there be base models available? I would of thought it will come as a top of the range style spec and the target audience will be the mall crawler types.
It will have all the gadgets and bits and pieces stuck on it but will rarely if ever get used off-road
