Good photos Luke. A great trip Brian and good company, thanks again. Always good to explore new places, some very scenic areas. Some of my photos below, will start editing the videos throughout the week hopefully. Gave the patrol a thorough wash today, doesn't look so sorry now it's not covered in salt

Thanks Brian, great trip, good company, loved it, I have washed the Patrol, there's heaps of love marks down the sides, better get out the big polisher for this one, it was good to be back on a 4x4 earth trip again, I have heard from Dan, he made it back okay, he took on a bus in a power struggle, and won, but I'll let him tell the story,,

Leaving home at 9am wednesday morning i pointed the cruiser east heading for Mt Barker truck stop to meet up with Don, aka Navigator 54, 10am and Don arrives right on time . Intro's done and we're off, Pt Macdonnell bound. Don and i had previously chatted via pm about the need for winches on this trip as his was in need of some maintenance, nah she'll be right was may reply, oh how i would eat those words later .
We make good time and pull into Pt Mac cvan park near on 4pm, pay our fee's and set up camp in a nice protected area with nice green grass to set up on. Soon after Alex, aka 4tunner rocks up along with Mat, aka Outrage, the 1st of our vic friends not far behind.
Intro's done, Alex and Mat have setup and we all pile into my cruiser and head for the only pub in town for T. A great feed and a few beers later its back to camp to await the rest of the wednesday arrivals. Dan, Mac man Luke, Pat and co pilot Lex and Peter A all arrive in due course, by midnight the last of us hit the sack with great anticipation about the next days drive.
Thursday morning was overcast and a little damp. We break camp by 9am and head for the finger point carpark which would be the start of our trip proper. Cejay with his son Mick are there waiting for us, we all drop tyre pressures to 12 psi and jump on the first beach, happy to have engaged the stubby leaver. The beach is soft but poses no issues for our group and before long we're of the beach and onto the first of the cliff top tracks.
I had intended for Carpenters Rocks to be our camp for that night as i was expecting a few recoveries along the way but the beaches were in great shape and we had made very good time. We pulled up to the lighthouse at carp rocks at midday, had a break the hit the beach for a group photo .
The decision was made to push onto Southend which i had intended as 2nd night camp but as we were making great time this would work to our advantage and basically put us a day ahead, and open more opportunities to show everyone more of our great coastline that us SA'ers are lucky to have only a couple of hours away.
We entered Canunda NP . After a short run thru the inland track we headed for the beach as the constant woopy doos were starting to get a little frustrating. The beach was soft but the high line beside the dunes was definately driveable. A few k's along we come to a steep cross section of beach, only about 7 mtrs wide but with about a 7% gradient down to the shorebreak. I eased the cruiser to a stop to assess the situation, not wanting to risk the group i made the call to reverse back to the last exit. This done a group of 4wds came from the opposite direction, in high range and foot to the floor. They made it thru with some luck but had a steeper entry but easier exit thru the nasty bit which gave me 2nd thoughts about bypassing this section.
Now this is where i eat those " wont need a winch mate, she'll be right" words id spoken to Don the previous morning.
Against my better judgement and with some encouragement from one of the group i lined up the crusier and hit it in 4th low at 4000rpm, made it 2/3rds the way across before becoming horribly bogged. At this point i got on the radio and told the other not to even contemplate following me, only to rurn around and see Pete launch into the same mess i was in , just not as far across the nasty section, great now 2 stuck.
The tide was on its way out (thankfully) but waves were still washing the sand off my tyre at the rear, the same with Pete.
I got a couple of vehicles set up on the other side thanks to the inland track and went about planning the recovery. I got Pat and Mick set up as winching points as snatching was out of the question as it would be way to harsh on both vehicles.
Micks winch was'nt working so we deleted Pats prado from the recovery and used Micks as the main winch point. All set up and tryes dropped to 8psi i put my trusty ol premier winch into action and after 25 mins i was out.
Pete was next, recov tracks, digging and 6psi in the tyres, along with some heavy pushing he managed to reverse out of his prediciment, very well done to i might add. While this was all going on, Luke in an attempt to set up as an anchor point managed to sink himself to the chassis rails aswell, with some digging and a light snatch from Alex he was free. Thats the first time in 12yrs of driving down there that iv bogged myself on a beach, i need to follow my gut instinct i think and thank christ i had my winch, ha .
We assembled back at the dune track, had some lunch and had a fairly uneventfull run into Southend, via the dune tracks. I had a campsite in mind out of the NP but had only viewed it on google earth, turned out a beauty and after some shianigans from the rest of the group we settled in for a nice night around the fire.

Great read so far, I wish I had Kept my trap shut and you wouldn't had any need for your winch.... and I should have stayed back.... O well, next time hey. Ha, all good mate, plus the winch needed a run anyway.
Not your fault at all mate, im big and ugly enough to know when i stuffed up , and yep i did as i decided to give it a crack, and failed. All you did was encourage that side of me that says, yeah go on , what could possibly go wrong, hahaha.

F..........N SHOULD HAVE COME. I almost did on 4 occasions but the work at the Shack has to take priority at this stage (Brian will understand)
Sounds like You all had a good trip without any major injuries. A few boggns but it's the South East and totally expected. I made a bad call ... should have headed down. Bugga !@#$%^&* Another nice trip under the belt Brian ... Well done

What a ripper weekend! Big thanks goes out to Brian for organising the trip and also everyone who came along and made the trip an enjoyable one. Always great to explore new spots, meet some new people, and we were very fortunate to have some fantastic weather along the way. Look forward to the next one!
