I find that ABC is accurate with their reporting but is still often presented in a biased manner
You only to read the headline grab to see which insinuating way the story is going even if the content is accurate
Reporting a glass as half full or half empty is both accurate but portray differently to the reader

I don’t find the others any better though and quite often much less subtle in showing their biases

agreed,

If I was a reporter, in a dying industry, and my employer was the government. I'd flip to lefter than left too. The last thing I would report is something positive about the Libs - I might help them get back in so they can cut costs. Similar but opposite for news Limited.

It's self-preservation. Nothing new, and has been going on forever. I remember my Grandmother saying "You can't believe everything you read in the newspaper, you can't believe half of what you hear on the radio, and you can't believe anything you see on television", and that was in the 60's. Imaging what she'd think about facebook!!

Everyone spins the truth, every day. Children can supposedly start to figure out when someone is lying at about 3 years old.

The issue is no the way it's told, it is the ability of the viewer/reader to discriminate the truth. Apparently a tall order for some.

I'm not sure why it's such a revelation here.

Look. A lot of you are procrastinating as if you reckon you know what makes everything tick.
Just so you understand I have posted this video so one and all can really understand the truth.
I happened to get this video from a secret reliable source.

Yep. Old Joe has got it covered. Damn Trump for building the wall, we will knock it down and everything is sweet.
And we can always blame Trump for starting it all .
It is really funny if it was not so serious. Poor kids.

And with no sense of shame as well. An ideal applicant for a job at the ABC.

It's what I said in my other post. I have no idea why you guys have the views you have, we're all reading and viewing the exact same stuff and have completely opposite views. It's weird and can't be explained and nothing to do with bias really. It's like we're looking at what I think are apples and you guys are calling them oranges, and obviously the same but opposite from yours. That's my take anyway and I'm not going to try and tell you you're wrong because I can't explain how you can think my apples are oranges. Like I said, really weird. You probably don't get what I'm trying to say.

I'm at the point of thinking what people post isn't necessarily what they believe and that there are plenty of "s_ _t stirrers" out there.

No, you've got close to 50% of the US with polar views to the other 50%. Thinking they're all morons or stirrers is not correct. There's a lot more to it I reckon. If you subscribe to the Dunning Kruger effect then if you're sure you're right then there's a really big chance you're actually wrong.

Is it a case of believing what you want to believe? Maybe I don’t know.

I do know that my views have changed / transformed over the years as a result of my life experiences and making a point of not living in a bubble, when I speak to my elderly mother and sister I realise how differently I think now to how I was raised, maybe I am wrong

The problem as I see it is that every single issue becomes a partisan one - people don't seem to be able to meet in the middle whatsoever. Blame whoever you like, but the polarised and divided views on every news piece and culture wars are part of (the whole?) problem.

It's patently obvious (to me) that giving the entire population unrestricted access to semi automatic weapons is a bad idea.

It's patently obvious (to me) that helping under privileged people who genuinely need help is a good idea.

Yet depending on which side of the political fence you sit in the US, these concepts either make perfect sense, or fly in the face of every thing you hold true.

Over my life journey I have gone from a red necked (as in socialist) lefty uni student to a strong conservative. I don't believe I have ever said I liked Trump but because I have defended him and defended the US peoples choice of him I have been pigeon holed into being a trump supporter. I have no issues with people hating Trump. I would just prefer it however if they kept it to themselves or at least within the like minded. Over the preceding 4 or so years I have been subjected to amazing vicious and vitriolic language from numerous people I hardly know not because I like Trump but because I said I don't hate him. Can't you haters just get over it? You should be luxuriating in the present instead you're behaving like scorned lovers.
Many of the comments or should I say name calling here about Trump have just been over the top and totally unnecessary. As for my opinion of photo-shopping Trump as a baby covered with excrement - well it would probably get me banned from here and I would give the same opinion if it was done to Biden. can't you guys grow up?

LOL

If you don't vote Labour when you are young, you don't have a heart.
If you don't vote Liberal by the time you're 30, you don't have a brain.

So whats your point ??
Build a wall and keep them out? Is that an answer to humans looking for a better life, locking them up for years isn't an answer thats for sure.
There are over 100 million residents of the US and they worry about a few 1000.
Look at the real numbers of refugees and people staving to death around the world and you think building a wall is a sane answer.
Its a massive issue and will only get worse and worse with the way modern society funnels money from the poorest to the wealthiest

A few thousand?

Look at the real numbers of refugees

Sure, 76,000 people try to illegally cross the southern US border to get into the states EVERY MONTH. It's out of control. That's 1 Million every year - a few more than 1000 people. In fact, 3,000 people every day try to illegally cross the border into the US! With the drugs, crime, health costs and unemployment, child abandonment, Illegal entry is a hell of a problem. Its rampant, there are estimated to be 12 MIllion illegal immigrants living in the US, not 1000. That's why they care.

The vast majority aren't even refugees ( people who are forced to move under political threat of imprisonment or death). They are economic migrants. ( people who chose to illegally move in order to have a better lifestyle)

It's like here. When Labour got in, the people smugglers knew their business were back. Numbers went from almost none to hundreds of thousands. It took a strong stance and a change of government to stop them and send a message. If people apply to come here and get in the queue, then we can be generous. But when the orders are leaky, there is no stopping people landing on shore.

No matter what we think from 10,000 miles away, if the US democratically elects a government, and that government wants to build a wall, then who are we to say that's wrong. Build the damm thing.

The bleeding hearts don't suffer the consequences. Its the families of people who die from drugs, the people who miss out on jobs because an illegal will do it for half the price. It's the neighbours who find themselves suddenly living in a hovel shit hole area.

Maybe you know more about economics than I. But I can't reconcile that statement.

Start with China where almost everything has been made for the last 30 years.

Between 1990 and 2015, 746 Million ( 3/4 Billion) people in China were lifted above the poverty line on the back of manufacturing and exports to these so called wealthy countries. ( Source Unicef) The income and cost of labour in China have moved from the east coast, slowly to the western provinces. And now they are living a life out of Poverty. And companies are looking elsewhere for labour. Ask those people if they are poorer because of the richer countries buying goods they make. It has has helped so many people, the closing in the gap between China and US wealth has been called the Great Chinese Economic Miracle. All funded by Western money pouring into China in exchange for goods and the labour to make them.

So... with the increase in labour rates ( income) a lot of production in the last 10 or 15 years has moved to Vietnam. The Poverty rate there has gone from 78% in 2008 to just 23% in 2020. I am sure they are bitching - NOT!

Next? Bangladesh where all your Socks and T Shirts are made now. 50% poverty in 2000, down to 21% in 2019. It has saved millions of lives and allowed women to earn family income and be empowered. Lets listen for them asking to go back to the good old days before richer countries started buying manufactured goods there ..... crickets.

Cambodia, India, Laos, Burma, etc is the same story. Just like Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea 30 - 50 years ago. Probably the same for Mexico where most US cars are made now.

So maybe I don't get it. Across those countries, probably 1 - 1.5 Billion people have risen above the poverty line with increased wealth. I'd be amazed if they agree they are worse off.

Sure they don't drive nice cars or use uber eats, but they do have increased wealth, income and lifestyle because of the West buying goods.

I'm not saying your statement is wrong, I am saying that it simply doesn't add up to me. I'm no economist for sure. Can you please explain on what basis is the money funnel going the other way from them to us as you say?

Maybe I did not make the point clear enough seeing you did not get it after seeing the video I posted. Trump was assesing the visas, permits, applications, whatever of the immigrants. refugees, drug runners whatever in Mexico before they came across the border. Bit like here were ours are assessed before they come in. Biden however is assessing them after they cross the border????????
I believe that we have to help as much as we can to keep them in their own countries. I know for a fact that that is the wish of many if not all to remain in their own countries and have a better life. Many who come here have told me they would love to go back home if conditions were better.
How do I know? Because I do a lot of work with refugees, donating etc. I have even been into refugee camps in Malta with my cousin helping them. So I hope you understand that I do have concerns for them especially the children.

This is the problem here Roger. Because you don't hate Trump you get pigeon holed into an embodiment of all the things they believe Trump to be. Sometimes I wonder if they actually read all of the posts that they are responding to. I guess they don't watch the "right wing murdoch propaganda" you post either. These debates are always far more complicated than simplistic one liners and individuals' opinions (and actions) are far too diverse to pigeon hole.

Anti vax
Anti lock up
Anti Bill Gates
Anti truth ( oh that's right they want the truth, I forgot LOL)
Covid Doesn't exist

And they are busy burning down phone towers ( not just 5 G ones either) and plotting to destroy the vaccine supplies.

They're calling for people to educate themselves and open their eyes. How's that for Irony! The village idiots are calling for everyone else to be smarter. HA

Just having a chat with her and keeping it light as was not wanting to offend her but I did ask the question of if you believe in the stars and the solar system with the planets aligning blah blah blah how does that work when the world is flat? And when you look up and can see the moon with your naked eye is that still flat too ? o_O

Little bit of food for thought for the young lass :)
