Portable Tree

I did actually see from another previous post that there is a device that actually fits over the star pickets mentioned so that was an interesting idea.

The skid under the camper trailer jockey wheel is also a great idea. I think i will put some thought into that immediately. Thanks for that. I have actually had that argument about pulling the camper out separate but kept comming back to the jockey wheel being buried or broken off. Guess thats what i get for arguing with myself huh:)

I also give the star pickets some thought however the last time i was bogged was in the Simpson in the middle of Lake Poppel. It took about 5 hours to get out and i was using a large dainforth anchor. I must have winched 40 times to get out so i keep imagining having to pull the pickets out of the groung that many times.

So I guess my main reason for the Portable Rescue Tree was that it folds up quite compact and it "apparently" from the many Malcom Douglas demo's pulls out of the ground easily ready for another grab if required. I just wished I knew someone who had one to try out. It is something that, like my winch may never get used BUT, the Simpson is a pretty remote place so i guess $500 could save a life or 2. I just gotta find someone who can possibly sell me one.

Does anyone know where I can get one of those portable trees? I have seen them used by Malcom Douglas and it looks like just what I need. I am driving a current model VX Prado with 2" lift and all the electronic bells and whistles. I also tow a Kimberly Kamper so my total GVM is 4000kg neat. The traction control and stuff works nearly as good as diff locks, that is while the sensors are working but am unsure whether this stuff will work in the sand. I have done a couple of trips into the Simpson without a camper and just carried a boat winch. Proved very reliable while crossing lake Poppel at Xmas time in 2006. I will invest in a set of Max tracks or even 2 but still need to be very self sufficient as we are beginning to plan another trip west to east from Dalhousie along the Rig road with the camper.http://www.4x4earth.com.au/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

Well I got one at last at the Brisbane 4X4 show. Bloody cheap too at $195.00. Now to get out and test it.

.

Good old Mr $x$, i mean MR 4x4 recommends using a shovel as a skid in the sand as the end always faces up under the weight and never gets caught. I would need to watch the episode again when its on tv to tell you exactly what he did.

No idea about your portable tree, i actually thought it was something in regards to that monkey your keeping.

You planning on getting bogged on Stockton Beach are you :D?

No - after that last post by Gordon "I EXPECT" to get bogged. It will be too bad for you lot if I can recover myself but won't it:eek:

Just got to go out and test it tomorrow afternoon ... before I get too cocky;)

Methinks you have far too much money to waste....you already carry a spare tyre, shovel and a winch with you majority of the time....l'm sure the money could of been put to a better use, donated to 'Lee's New 4by Appeal'!!!!:rolleyes::p

Pretty much Marty except it folds up. I have been saved before by using a boat anchor so I got plenty of respect for them.

i think you can get fold up boat anchor cheaper than arb any way.all you can do is give it a go better than diging a big hole and puting your spare tyre in it

Trust me Lee, if your bogged in the middle of a salt pan you don't want to be considering digging 10 or 20 holes to bury your spare tyre cuz thats what it could take to winch yourself to safety.

Unless you are volunteering to do the digging?

I'm guessing this year ALL salt pans will be full of water so if we want to use the anchor we'll have to attach it to the front of Chris's boat:eek:

Frosty wouldn't laugh at me bogged ... never:rolleyes:
