permits for blacksmiths beach

Permits are required for the blacksmiths up to redhead .stretch of beach . But wait for it .A yearly pass is $88 a weekly is 33 . And a month is 44 . I purchased the year . As I'm up there a bit . . I thought about 50 odd bucks but when I paid 88 .it was a bit rich I think considering it was of no charge before I'm happy to pay I have been going there for 7 years . I know it did get a bad name cause some people don't know how to respect it and take there rubbish . .I know iv clean up people's shit to roll out my swag .

It was bogan central last few times I was there, would love to hear some feedback of it now.
Surely that price tag will knock a few off.

We arrived about 4.30 via Kalaroo rd and get some sunrise pics, went out again about midday to buy the pass.
Then, we drove along the coast from kalaroo rd and about every 200 m we met a group of 2-3 cars that stay for camping.

I went for a day trip up there today . The Rangers are around . . But was a top day I think a lot of people had the same idea .It was very busy .

Yep, pity that's a bit of a black mark on an otherwise great weekend.
Now if there's a permit system, can't authorities take your info / pics, and look up the last person to camp there ????
Otherwise, what's the bloody point of having the system, apart from $$$$, and it couldn't be just that, could it ?

I'm going up to Blacksmiths next weekend, hopefully to do some camping. I've been looking for information but it all seems to be scattered through different threads/forums so just want to confirm a few things with someone who is familiar with the area.

Access is via Belmont North, Kolaroo rd.

Can get permits from Belmont North bait and tackle store, Redhead service station (closes at 7:30pm), Third creek bait and tackle on wommara ave Belmont North, Belmont golf club and Marks Point newsagency. $33 for weekend $44 for the month and $88 per year.

With regards to camping can we just pop a tent up anywhere on the sand or is there designated spots?

Anywhere we can't drive? I've heard to stay off the dunes but then have read about people talking about having fun driving on the dunes?

If we drive up on Friday arvo will the weekend pass cover Friday and Saturday night and all day Sunday?

Anything else to add?

Thanks for your help guys, this is our first trip to a beach so just want to do the right thing and have a good time with no stress :D

I ended up searching for "Nine Mile Beach permit" instead of Blacksmiths and found a PDF from Belmont wetlands with all the info I wanted in one place: http://www.belmontwetlands.com.au/u...61/faqs_nine_mile_beach_4wd_permit_system.pdf
Though it seems to be down at the moment, I can email it to anyone who wants it.

We had a great day, first time driving on the sand. Didn't get stuck and the Triton went really well at 15 PSI and even better when I remembered to turn traction control off :p

Beaches are a lot of fun to drive, always something new, conditions usually are different too.
Just be sure to give the car a really good wash with good car wash detergent.
And the chassis and little gaps / nooks and crannies, behind splash shields, mud flaps, etc . . . get a good pressure hose (most home pressures are up to it) and using it without a nozzle, get it in the many holes and flush until there's no more sand coming out anywhere.
I got a bucket of sand out of mine after washing the other day after a 4 dayer down the SE of SA.
If not flushed totally, the sand hardens with time and becomes a point for moisture to gather and rust to begin, collects other crap in there easier by having somewhere to gt caught on.

drop tyre pressure to 12 psi you will be fine,
for recovery ( just in case) maxtrax and shovel are more than enough
camping spot would be nice at next to the creek
you need to have permit and ranger will be patrolling all the time

Thanks mate
Got some TREDs and shovel. Oh wow, ok I'll make sure I'll get a permit. I have not even been checked once @ stockton beach and I've been there 7-8 times with friends and family

Are campfires allowed? any place to collect firewood or small branches... or we would need to bring absolutely everything?
Also, which entrance is more beginner friendly?
