OziExplorer - Map Set Up - Which Folder ?

I am using a Hema Navigator running OziExplorer and have recently obtained a set of Victorian maps. There are approximately 330 individual maps in the set. ( each map has two parts, the map part and the ozf2 part. ).

I have no problems using the maps as individual maps on either the PC or in the Hema running OziExplorer, but was wondering if there is a way that when you navigate to the edge and move off one map, the next automatically loads, rather than the unit then defaulting to the standard state map or Zone 55 map which are both preloaded.

The preloaded folder directory under OziExplorer Maps is Australia 250K Maps, Hema General Maps and Hema Regional Maps. You can also create other folders and populate them with various map files. Also have no problem with this.

Hoping someone with some OziExplorer skills can assist.

The Vic State maps I have are the Hema Maps Victoria set and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Fire Management Maps. Both sets are 1:25000 and excellent quality and both have many hundreds of individual maps etc.

Thanks in advance

Davidman,

You can create another folder called Vicmaps if you want and put the Vicmaps in there. As long as the map file path is correct, Oziexplorer will search all folders for map files.

As far as I am aware, the map file paths are correct. When opening maps the file path looks something like \SDMMC\OziExplorer Maps\Vic Topo Maps and it is in this folder that the particular maps are stored.

A similar thing occurs when using the 2007 Melways maps in Ozi. These maps are split into four ( melwaysA through melwaysD ). When you get to the edge of one of the melways maps, it then automatically opens the Victorian state map which stored in the same folder as opposed to the next melways map.

I have looked through the Hema website and manauls etc, none of which go into any great details on file paths etc. Any easy way to check if what I have is the correct set up?

David,

Open OziExplorerCE, click on file bottom left hand corner. Click on Configuration, click on Map & Data Files. You should see your map file path as \SDMMC\OziExplorer\Maps\Hema or similar with the active box ticked on the right hand side. On the second line click on the three dots and that will display the Get Path Dialog to select your Map or Data file path, it should look like \SDMMC\OziExplorer\Maps\Hema\Vic Topo Maps make sure you tick the active box. The first path in the list is used in the Open Map File dialog. All paths are used when when searching for maps if they are ticked as active. Only active paths are used to find maps when using the Map Find function or changing maps in moving map mode.

Make sure you have the Moving Map set to Load Detailed Map. If ticked a more detailed map (better scale) will be searched for at the specified interval when running in moving map mode. If a better map is found it will be loaded automatically.

Hope this helps.
Cheers

Whatever

There is also a button to push when the moving map box is showing that looks only in "the current map file" - I have my files under "Rooftop", "Hema", "VicMap", etc, and sometimes I just want, say the Rooftop maps to load.

For this to work though you have to have a map showing from the file that you want to stay in:eek:.

Hi
I have mapped the file paths now, all seems to be working well. The additional folders I had created were not mapped. Please excuse my ignorance ( again ) but which button is is that allows you to search only in the folder that you are currently viewing a map from. I am familiar with the on screen buttons to search for more or less detailed maps etc, but not the one you mentioned.
Thanks

David,

Manually activating the Search for More / Less Detailed Map options will turn off the automatic Search for More Detailed Map option. This means a particular map can be displayed and the program will not automatically change the map at the set interval. To turn ON automatic searching, use the Detailed Map option on the Main Toolbar.

Thanks again for your help. Think I have got the thing under control for a while, at least until the next time.

I generally run with the Vic topomaps or the deer maps available on GPS Australia. For more detailed maps or maps of a specific area that I may be visiting, I use GoogleOzi or a similar program to create my own. Have a look at the GPS Aust site, there are plenty of maps, suggestions and apps to pretty much do whatever you want.
