I work for Boral so i will be sure to wear my uniform next time i am wheeling in there, however you all know what this means dont you? It will eventually become an extention to the existing quarry so bye bye tracks! :(

If your up there on weekends you'll see the security guards taking snaps of your trucks and noting regos'. They don't have the right to refuse access but will report non roadworthy vehicles (comp trucks etc...) as they are concerned about the creeks and bush getting ripped up. They also now have surveillance camera's through the area also. These guys represent one of the quarries that surround this area and it's in the interest of the quarries that the creeks that flow through private property further downstream dont get too stirred up by 4wders and get fined by council. The track from Vennor Drive through to Upper Ormeau Rd is a nice moderate level trip with a few little challenges along the way.

Stay on the main track, tread lightly and enjoy the drive. But you'll need to get in quick as last time I was up there, security did mention that the council was going to gate it all off on the proviso that the quarries maintained the track for fire trail access....

Gates are up kids! Ormeau is now officially a no go zone. And yes its the Holcim quarry that owns the land. I used to work there and still talk to alot of the guys. Bummer, it was one of my favorite spots.

Not so just yet! Out of curiosity I took a drive up this morning and checked for gates. Nothing as yet on the main track at Vennor Drive end or Upper Ormeau Rd end. There were however some contractors welding up some gates/fencing to stop access to private property just inside the Upper Ormeau Rd end. This is where drivers have been illegally accessing the area (off the main track) and ripping it all up. But access to the main track is not gated as yet...

Actually, the main track can not be closed. It is a gazetted road and therefore legal to drive on as long as you are in a registered and roadworthy vehicle. However this main track offers little to the experienced 4x4er and is relatively short to drive.

Even less challenging now! We went up there on Sunday for a drive and the "what was once a fun, Rocky ascent" at the Vennor Drive end, has now been graded to the extent that a Toyota Prius could drive it! Still a couple of nice sections beyond Cliff Barrons Rd, but as you say dirtfix, a relatively short drive that is not challenging for anyone who looking for anything extreme. beyond Cliff Barrons heading South would still not be recommended for the Soft Roaders...

I think you'll find it's a private road. It's gazzetted, but Private. That means it's up to Holcim to manage and maintain the road.

As far as I know, that means gates.

Went up there through the top of Vennor yesterday, (30 September) on my trail bike (Live only 300 metres away from the top of Vennor), as I progress through the trail there were two blokes parked on the side in there 4WD's taking photo's.. mind you my bikes unlicensed and unregistered.. didn't bother talking to them. Also the main trail is really smooth now with some good "jumps" in them. Anyone know about the legalities of what I'm doing? :)

Can I suggest reading the entire thread and making up your own mind. Also remember you are riding unregistered when you are reading the thread :)

Yep registered vehicles ONLY on the main loop ONLY! Was there today, security was not there, public holiday rates i guess. But yeah, lots of graded tracks, lots of big thick steel fencing, gates and no entry signs. Its all over bar the shouting for Ormeau Hills trails.

Yeah the main loop is all thats left legal. And there are a few side tracks on the upper Ormeau Rd end that can be accessed but please stay out of the regeneration areas, they are clearly signposted, That means the start of the creek run to! If we want to keep what little there is left open we must abide by the rules
