Optima battery alternative

I would like to replace the OEM start battery on my Toyota Landcruiser 2020, 200 series. So I'm looking at Super Start, Exide, Supercharge or Optima. I have a Century N70 T as an auxiliary battery. Any thoughts on a good starter battery with good CCA numbers please?

All my research led me to an Optima yellow top D27F, imo far a superior battery to the others.........................but you pay for it!
This replace my OEM battery about 3 years ago now.
Faultless, sometimes I dont start my car for up to 2 weeks at a time & turn key, boom, no lag or effort to start.

Not sure of the battery specs , requirements for the 200 but Super Start Batteries are well worth a look, very reliable, good capacity, good warranty and cheaper than most, certainly better than most others IMO

Lots of owners on LCOOL have the Super Start and swear by it. I have had century and optima. Like many I'd never buy them again. I currently have a supercharge which has performed well.

I agree, Optima yellow top D27F is really reliable, though expensive
I currently have 2 x D31’s. The ‘old’ one is a 2013 model and still load tests 100%. They cost a bit more to buy but they end up the cheapest batteries to own.

I have been using SSB for about 10 years and no complaints although the last battery I bought was a Supercharge because they were stocked locally

I've had a Yellow under the bonnet since 2018, no issues. I chose it for my Canning trip as we were running 2 fridges off my lead crystal. The idea was to use the yellow as a backup if the lead crystal couldn't cope. OEM failed me twice in one week prior to my Canning trip and was replaced.

Worth mentioning I've only had to winch from it once, another FJ that was dry docked on some ruts.

Wow 9 years in service, thats impressive.

I think its the tech that has gone into the build as well.

Not that I do many corrugations but the construction method makes them almost bullet proof.

They demand being charged properly, not just off alternator I’ve found. The last one I binned was 11 years old - literally out of Steve irwin’s cruiser Ute - he changed them regularly. Long story.

My D27F lasted a whole 6 months before it failed spectacularly in a remote part of the world. It wasn't that rough either.
I hear before they were made in mexico, they were great, but quality went downhill after that.
I'm on my 3rd after 2 x warranty replacements. It now lives on an auto charger when not in use for a week or so.

Another one running an Optima D27. I have a lithium battery in the ute tub to run my fridge and stuff.

Fair call boobook. Only difference is we don't have BF Goodrich and Mickey T equivalents chiming in to challenge it just yet.

From what I have read on various forums, the new optima batteries are not as good as the old. Ie they seemed to change around 2018 onwards. I have a one as an AUX since 2016 and it still holds charge OK and runs my very old engel overnight. As Discomatt says the SSB seem to be the choice on AULRO website for main batteries as well as AUX.

6 years and still going strong on my 105Ah SSB aux in the back of the Paj fed by an IDC25. It even made it to the engine bay for starting duties when the optima packed its bags and went home.
