Hello all,

I have toyota hilux 2013 diesel manual it has oil leak from the intercooler pipe that goes into the turbo.

Does anyone know if this oil leak normal or not?

And what causes this oil leak?

And how to fix it?

Please if anyone had same problem or have knowledge about it let me know please. Thank you all.

You could clean it but that is just for aesthetics. Maybe check to see the hose clamps are tight otherwise it is perfectly fine as it is.

No need to go get a catch can either - they are the modern equivalent of snake oil.

The motor will produce some blow by from compressed air/combustion gases leaking past the piston rings. This is vented into the air intake just down from the air filter. Its called a Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) system as the engine and turbo sucking keeps the crankcase from building pressure that can cause oil leaks.

Down side is that it also brings some oil mist from the crank case that will be burnt in the engine, and that is probably what you are looking at.
If its a light smear that wipes away, then its probably fine. If its wet, then you might have an issue, either excessive blow by or the turbo might have a seal that is on the way out.

Definitely don't ignore a failing turbo seal as a diesel will run quite happily up past redline to detonation (or until it uses all the sump oil) on atomized sump oil.

Thank you for the information Hoyks,
I will check the amount of the oil there and check hose clamps too if it's loose. if there's alot of oil then I'll take to the mechanic to check it.
