RE Oil use

Thanks for such a quick reply I really appreciate it I had a complete service T/belt and all adjusters, water pump.A complete service as I have only had it for a few months and I wanted to know all was well with it buying into the unknown so to speak. It has only done 165000 klms and is in showroom condition for its age,Runs perfectly and is faultless. The level was about 3mm above the low mark when I checked it the other day.I would have thought it would last a bit longer than that.
Thanks

I have a 96 NJ. Mine goes through oil too. I find that if I have been idling for a while in drive, upon take off it blows smoke for a second or two, nothing major though. Have been told, not sure how reliably, that this is an issue with a lot of Pajero's.

When was the last oil change? When the oil is old and not doing the job correctly with protection it burns quickly. I would change the oil with a Penrite 20W50 (or maybe 15W40 check your manual) and do the oil filter too. At 165,000KM I wouldn't expect rings or value seals to be faultly.

I have been recommended to run a cleaner through the oil to remove old carbon build up.

You could be using the wrong oil in it, the same thing happened in the Landcruisers, so they started using a slightly thicker oil and it soved the problem.

Ok Deb_daz i would be doing another oil change and putting in the genuine Mitsubishi Oil and a genuine filter as i have worked with Mitsubishi for around 18yrs and have found that they use less oil if genuine oil is used as they have found a formular that works well and also stops alot of noisy lifters if they are run low on oil also

Cheers Anthony
