Nissan Patrol with 6.5 Chev V8 diesel and dual cab, 2000

Good Points
Torque, space in the canopy etc

Bad Points
None i can think of....maybe a bit noisy for the likes of some people.

What mods have you done?

  • 4" lift with associated alterations to panhard rods, drag link, castor angles etc
4" home made snorkel with large Donaldson ram head
Amsoil dual bypass oil filtration set-up
2 x CAV filters + Morison Debug unit and 2 electric lift pumps

Warning buzzers for: low water, low oil pressure, canopy doors open + the TM2 has a buzzer too!!! haha
Electric vacuum pump (just fitted this in last few days, along with the VDO vac gauge)
Extra glove box (where the 2nd air bag would normally be located).

What mods are on the list to do?
Not many left to do.......would love to put Mark's Adaptors Portal Axles in it at some stage....

Why did you buy this vehicle?
Touring tug for my Ultimate Camper

How often do you go offroad?
Not as often as i'd like...

What will your next vehicle be?
Maybe an Oka?

I knew it wouldn't take long til I was asked about that pic.... hahaha

Back in 2008 we set out on a trip to do a 2nd crossing of the Simpson, east to west. Before leaving I made some engineering ......hmmmmm... "adjustments" to the rear suspension. The result of my "over-engineering" made the coil springs almost redundant and the shock of all the corrogations and rough roads between Lyndhurst and Innaminka resulted in a hair-line crack developing in the chassis:

This pick shows what is was like by the time we reached Birdsville!!!

I thought it best to abort the trip. I have a great mate (Pud and his missus, Barb). They were travelling with us. He volunteered to drive my wife and 2 of my 3 boys, the 1100klm from Birdsville to Kadina. He did that in a day (towing my camper trailer), slept overnight at our place and then left the next morning to go back to Birdsville where Barb and their 2 girls were waiting at the caravan park....they then did the Simpson trip. He did 2200klm in 2 days....he's a truckie.

Meanwhile, my oldest son and I managed to scab a lift with the truckie who brought my Patrol back home. We left Birdsville a couple of hours after Pud left and we parked-up at Marree for the night, before leaving around 8am the next morning to continue our southerly journey. I heard Pud on the UHF as we were coming into Quorn and I was having a dig at him cos I thought we'd caught up to him and that he must have slept in!!! I felt pretty stupid when he informed me that he was already on his BACK up north!! hahaha

Anyway, the chassis was repaired under insurance by Chassistech in Adelaide....all plated-up and strengthened; so hopefully I won't have any more dramas... (note to self: leave the suspension mods to the experts in future).

G'day mate....no the conversion was done by the original owner as soon as he bought the patrol in late 2000. He immediately swapped-out the 4.2TD in favour of the Chev 6.5

I bought the Patrol in November 2006, so it was well and truly run in by the time I bought it.

Consumption is about 17L/100km; but bear in mind that she's a very heavy beast and has a huge frontal area with the spare tyre up top etc. I reckon the motor would be capable of getting about 14L/100km in a "normal" Patrol.

Thats still less fuel consumption compared to a 4.8 petrol Patrol fitted with gas.

Good to see you here Roachie.

Hey Roachie,
That's a nice rig you have.
Just a couple of questions about your rig,
Auto or manual?
What length is the canopy?
Do you know the weight of your truck?
And did you crack your chassis due to weight?
I'm considering this combination.
Cheers

Ssh78 sadly Roachie has not been seen for a couple of years so you are not likely to get a reply on such an old thread when I think he has sold this one.

Cheers Towie,
Thought it may have been a long shot.
