Newcastle area outtings

Hi all,

just doing a quick roll call for those in the Newy area that might be interested in the occasional local area weekend runs/camp.
I tend to hit the wattagans a bit but haven't been anywhere other than the main roads etc.
I do have a few camp spots out of the way which I use for the odd overnighter.
I'd also like to check out the tracks around sugar loaf and get back down to the 'playground' at freemans.
Pretty much still wet behind the ears but ready to get stuck in.

If you're interested, drop a post and we'll figure it out.

cheers Brett

Hey Luthy,

all sounds good mate. Just shoot me a pm or the like and we can go from there.
I think there is plenty around sugar loaf. I've got a keen eye on some of those power line tracks up the side but not sure how full on they get.
I did the run from Wakefield up to the top on Sunday just gone.
A lot of it has been worked on lately, so it was pretty easy all the way.
There were a few other tracks running off which I believe are on the maps but I'm not sure of the condition of them.
I'm a bit of an explorer really and like to check out those odd tracks and things whilst I'm out.
Not ideal when solo though.
Keep in touch and I'm sure we can figure it out.
thanks for posting up.
Hoping to get a few more.

cheers Brett

Sounds good. We did a trip up to Wallaroo state forest last year only about 30 mins north of newy really and spent the day out there checking out a few tracks. Some fun ones up there, even one of the lads had a yabbie fall out from underneath there car at a bog hole. Definately keen on having a look up there again aswell as exploring some new places. Maybe the weekend of the 12th we should head out for a day trip? We could meet at freemans waterhole and head in from there and head north up the sugar loaf range or Wallaroo or duck in back way to watagans or check out karuah state/national parks.

I'm gonna say put me down as a maybe for the 12th at this point.
My bullbar was meant to arrive this week after being given a 2 week ETA when ordering.
I've now been told it wont be here until the 4th may. I'm heading away to Bylong 4x4 park with some mates on the weekend of the 26th or there about.
It's all going to depend on if I can get it fitted up on that weekend it arrives and if it arrives on time.
All going well, I reckon I would be keen for that to test it out the following weekend.
I'll keep you posted.
What sort of notice would you need ?

Well probably 5+ days. I run my own business so most saturdays i book in a job if i dont have anything other planned on a Saturday. In saying that tho i can always change things around. Id say i will post up a trip soon and see who wants to go out for a day or so depending on the imterest. Biggest problem is, is planning a day to do it hehe. Bylong ceeek eh? I might even come out for the day if you dont mind me tagging along.

ok got it. will let you know how I'm traveling. the only thing that will stop me, is if it turns up the week of and I'm fitting it that weekend.
I gave them a hurry up today but I think a fat lot of good that will do.
I have a few other mates who may come along depending on their commitments.
Bylong , yes. Absolutely feel free. I have the weekend off from the 20th so will be getting ready. Will either head up on the thur or fri.
Thus far we have 4 cars going. All good blokes. A couple taking the missus along. Hoping to be there until the monday.

Plenty of time to tee up a time etc.

I think we're also arranging a run up through the watagans this Sunday but most likely just fire trails and a bit of an explore more than a track run.
Most welcome to join if you like.

the watagans run went good. got to check out 5 ways. Not been there before.
Just in from the cooranbong end.
Took on the easy track when compared to the others.
It's steeper than it looks here but I made it a bit harder than it has to be.

Darn the weekend of the 26th I will be at the 4x4 NSW meet down at Bandethra. I probably wont be able to make it on the 12th neither due to my mum wanting to come and see the new house and packing for the next weekend.

all good mate, I'm planning on doing plenty in the future up around sugar loaf and the watagans. Just want to do some exploring etc.
When I've got enough lead time on a plan, I'll let you know.
Pity you can't make Bylong though, I can't wait myself .
