Taking suggestions... I have previously posted about scrub issues with my D23 nav, 40mm lift and 265/70/27s, turned out to be crap suspension. Since then I have purchased and will install a bilstein 3n2 kit with ucas.. My main problem, feel free to slap me as I can't make a choice as to what size tyre and I would like to hear from some of the nav guys or any IFS ute guy whos gone to 33s..

Do i go up to 275/70/17s and keep performance/economy but look a bit small for the lift
OR
285/70/17, would look and fit better but would sacrifice speedo, gearing, diesel range and day to day habits..

anyone put 33s on their Navara, would love to hear your thoughts before I take the plunge!

Thanks

Will this come across the border to nsw you think?
I don't think it's a question of 'if' - it's a question of 'when'.
The simple fact is that I think the cops everywhere are fed up with some 4WD owners thumbing their noses at them all the time with obviously illegally modified vehicles. Queensland was the first state to start big-time action but it's been happening pretty much everywhere on a much smaller scale.
NSW (and Vic, and SA, and WA, and NT, and ACT, and Tas) Police will be watching what happens in Queensland and seeing what lessons can be learnt and then instituting their own new and improved version of this blitz.

My advice - make sure you know the rules and make sure whatever you do fits within those rules.

First thing you need to do is totally forget this shit that fatter looks better, don't build a 4wd to look good, build it to work well and suit your requirements.
Do some research on what tires are legal on your car and what actually works better
Yeah leaning towards 32 (275/70/17) and bringing the nose down to 2.5

Gotta agree, but one thing ive learnt out of all this at that trying to gte a cut an dry answer on exact what is legal and what is not for your state and in different states with NCOP and ADR and RWC and VSI etc etc etc you've almost gotta be nuclear rocket surgeon......

I'd Agree,

Given his vehicle I'd be going a 265/70r17, no idea if that is legal, smaller than both sizes mentioned yet better suited.

Increasing the foot print even 10mm a side via rim offset makes a big difference, something I regret not doing on our Prado

No No No being practical is old school didn't you know theses days it's all about the look massive rims low profile tyres so it's useless even on a dirt road but as long as it looks cool or in my opinion crap cruising the streets that's about as far as most 4WD's venture these days .

But on the serious side as mentioned to keep legal no more than 50mm taller tyres than the manufacturer specified for your particular model.

Low profile tires on a commercial ute make me laugh, you just have to wonder why anyone would put a high speed, high performance tire designed for sports cars used on race tracks on a car that essentially is slow and crap handling
I figure it must be so the ride is even worse...

Not to mention you may void your insurance not running a light truck tyre.
Spotted this one a while back.

With all the crap going on in Qld at the moment and the wording of the NCoP
To remain within the scope of VSB14, a vehicle fitted with ESC and modified with a suspension lift up to 50mm beyond the original manufacturer’s standard height can be carried out under the basic modification without certification guidelines as listed in Section 4.
Vehicle modifications with a suspension lift above 50mm or due to a combination of any other lift (tyres, or body blocks) are required to meet this guideline and Code LS7 or Code LS8 where applicable.
Qld are interpreting the due to a combination of any other lift as you can have one or the other, not a combination, even if its under the 50mm it would seem.

Right thanks for the feedback, I was more concerned of power loss and drive ability day to day... Wasn't aware of the QLD issues (although i am in NSW).

I will run my 3 inch front and wind her down to 2inch, with 275/70/17s so only going up half a size and staying "legal".

Don't want a mall crawler, I use mine off road and just want the perfect mix for my lifestyle

Cheers fellas

Hi mate,

Have you checked that size is legal ?
From what I can see 275/70r17 is over 50mm on every D23 badged variant

But I could be wrong, good luck

What is the standard size for the D23? A quick search I came up with 235/70/16. So the obvious question if that is the case, WHY 17 RIM ??
you want a more capable 4wd so go back to 16 inch rim, more rubber = better off road + cheaper and more choice in tires.
Now that's sorted WHY 275? 235 / 85 /16 is really common size so easy to get even when remote traveling, a tall tire so will work really well when deflated ( I know this because I have run them for 10 years ) plus you will never get looked at by the police because you have skinny tires so even though you are illegal because they are 3 inches bigger 32 in total you will never get a unroadworthy.
Yes you wont look as cool but just for a moment think how cool it will be when your out with the boys and they all have fat tires and lookin tough and they will say " you wont make it up there with those tires " and sure enough you will drive straight up without a drama
Trust me on this one;)
