Anyone else watch the release today, including the new US Landcruiser Release. New 70 series includes a new engine and gearbox. Not many other details.

Because it was the front end people wanted redesigned on those. Assume the front and rear track is still from two different vehicles and the seat is still from the original 40 series

Yep but it’s only 8k more so a real bargain, guess increase as I haven’t looked at any of the details

Toyota has moved the LC70 from 1990 to 2012 with the addition of a 6-speed auto and the four cylinder diesel we've seen elsewhere - 150kW, 500Nm. Also some ADAS such as lane departure warning etc, and a 4.2" TFT display. The V8 manual continues alongside the new powertrain.

I asked Toyota about improved electronics and wider rear track, and they said:

Re rear track widened to match the front, no it has not.
Re details on electronic traction control system, further details will be provided closer to launch.

No bonnet scoop looks strange.
Front reminds me of a Suzuki Jimny.
Nonetheless, I’ll need to sell my Troopy…and buy a new Troopy. My 2022 model is just too old.

I wonder if you get the scoop still with the V8 variant?

I was thinking Bronco when I first saw the front end but Jimny vibes are there too
I think it looks cool dtill

I am not a fan of the higher bonnet front edge. The side profile with that bonnet messes with my head.
Doesn’t matter once you put a bull bar on it.

If you cannot look cool in a 70 with your Ray Bans, then it’s an immediate no.
It looks like it fell down the ugly tree and got slapped all the way down.

I like the automatic transmission but it’s implementation is damn ugly.
I bought a Troopy to look good in :p

I have to say the Prado will sell well (better addressed via different thread). I’d buy a Prado now…with Ray Bans in tow.

Looking at a side on view - I'm not sure I really like the bonnet changes, looks a bit weird... I still prefer the previous look but I suppose it will grow on me...

Troopy i have ordered hasn't even arrived yet.
They’ll probably let you choose which model you want.
If you are going to get an ‘ugly Troopy’…I’d still go with a manual. A manual is so easy to drive.
When loaded up with equipment (say 600kg all in), in 4th gear, you can still do 100kph up a very steep hill, I think at approx 2700-3000rpms. 3000rpm is very high for my driving but it’s important to do 100kph…keep to the speed limit (not 99kph). Could do 110kph heavy loaded but haven’t had a need to uphill yet.
I’ll look at the revs next time.
I wonder if the 4cylinder could do that? Maybe turbo spooling like crazy?

Make sure you pick up a pair of Ray Bans from the dealership, because they are making you drive it.

I wouldn’t really buy the new face lift.
It won’t grow on you.
It shouldn’t have to.

Thanks Toyota, my 78 has just increased in value.

But seriously, mine has a black Smartbar…SEXY AS HELL!

So, there's a four pot and it only comes in auto. Don't know who'll be using that: farmers, miners, NGO's and tourers/overlanders tend to carry/pull heavy loads, AND, want longevity in their vehicles. No doubt some small acreage (hobby) farmers will like the option though: visions of the Mahindra and Subaru Brumby come to mind. Perhaps the rock-crawling fraternity will have heaps of fun too, but who else?

Also, doubt it will be popular with world-wide 'freedom fighters' - will it move with an anti-aircraft gun mounted in the back? ;)

Still interested to see what changes, cosmetic or otherwise, they did to the V8 ... and that all important cost. Suggest it's gonna be o_Oo_O

Rock crawling fraternity? That’s hilarious, off the shelf it would have to be one of the least capable rock crawlers with the rear spring hangers, lack of overall clearance and articulation but each to their own

More power more torque and less weight, less fuel less rego and less running costs than the v8. Who wouldn’t want them?
The 2.8 runs various tunes. I’d guess in the cruiser it’ll be more like the coaster bus tune.

Agree with all the comments, I was just getting the conversation going on pros & cons of the four cylinder. Not much discussion on that to date.

Don't know what most people do after buying an LC, but given the cost regardless of engine capacity, I certainly wouldn't be modifying mine beyond the limits until the warranty expires. Will be interesting to see how many choose the four over the eight though, and whether the four lasts both in the sales and longevity stakes.
