There are a few good tracks towards Karma Waters (look for the sign - a turn off from the main road towards Cooktown). Its very dry right now so water crossings haven't been an issue for me. The biggest problem is corrugations. But really, there are that many dirt roads in every direction near Mt Carbine that you are spoilt for choice. Just head out there and see what you find

Alot of the tracks out there are also Private Property so beware of that.
Go up to Mt Spurgon for a look & great swimming spot -- turn right just before the bridge at Mt Carbine.
Cooktown Crossing is another good swimming/camping spot 15 mins up the road turn left at Hurricane Station sign on HWY.

North Hurracane is on the left before you go up a very large range you cant miss it to be honest its the only road & its signed & its wide open easy to see.
From Cooktown Crossing (nothing to do with Cooktown) we used to go out to Mt Mulligan & there is some awesome scenery out there but the Aboriginals now own the land & have locked it up.
