My kids swears by these. The mozzies used to really get to her.
I hate to be a old camudgeon, but aren’t they comsidered bunk by scientific experts. Feel free to correct me if they are evidence based

Has anyone tried thermacell? I much prefer the idea of that to drowning myself in repellent
I have one of the original units, not a cheap proposition (compared to other methods). One night as the sun went down, the swarm came out so I fired it up. Within minutes I lit mozzie coils instead. The mozzies then buggered off.

My experience seems to differ from others who seem to swear by them.

Long sleeves, trousers and sit in the campfire smoke
This. If it’s too hot for long gear and a hat at sundown or sun up you clearly aren’t anywhere where the bugs are too bad. You get used to long gear very quickly when you do it for a living. Nothing else works as well as simply covering your skin and spraying the bits that are uncovered. I also spray the clothes. I’ve had that much bug spray over the years I’ve now developed an allergic reaction to the stuff, and normal sunscreen.
Eddy Deermal up cape York used to knock the korms out of grass trees, crush them and put them on coals at either end of the camp. Smokey as hell but he reckoned it worked. As he said “only us black fellas can deface a grass tree up here in the parks though”.

anyone else cop a dose of Pam Ayers when they were younger? Reminded me straight away of this poem.

My mother had a Flit gun
it was devoid of charm
a bit of Flit shot out of it
The rest shot up her arm!
Yep, those old 'flit guns' were bloody good. Pretty much before pressure packs came in, especially in rural areas - buy Pea Beau in a tin, pour it into the gun and spray away. And, as Pam noted, if the seal on the push rod went, half of the spray went up your arm or into your face ... no flies on us!

Yes we had a timber handled one under the sink. Only mum was allowed to use it though haha

That was the nasty chemicals too, not the current stuff where they die from drowning
My wife actually bought environmentally friendly bug spray haha. It went about as well as you might expect.
