It's not a cheap piece of kit.

But honestly; the quality is out of this world. Everything said about the box is true. No affiliation, just a fan of super-high-quality Australian products.
My combo with the Donaldson cyclonic pre-cleaner means (to me) virtually no chance of dusting and one less thing to think about..
Big Fan.

Josh.

The endless mods to Toyota's, one would have to wonder why if they are the worlds best car why on earth so many mods are done to vertually every component and to virtually every one of them on the road
Nice air box though, should keep the dust out

With our work 70s and 200s, we just spray some K&N oil around mainly the sides and a bit on the seals, of the filters. Solves the problem and is much cheaper.

The genuine filter is the problem in my experience.

The big problem with the filter is that the design easily allows installers to pinch them when fitting, or put them in upside down. That is a recipe for disaster. There are quite a few pics of pinched seals leading to dust. I always check mine after a service. Some people like hiluxxary put a lube as extra assurance.

As he said, poor servicing leads to facebook disasters everywhere.

Same here. Make sure the seal hasn't been damaged or the filter upside down.

Donaldson is about to release their Powercore-based air box for the 200. If anyone has concerns then this system is specifically designed for industrial equipment in heavy dust conditions.

5 to 10 times the filtration of any OE paper filter and more airflow when full than new OE paper filters. No chance of putting it in the wrong way either.

That looks the business.

The company that fitted up my mods and does a lot of work for the dealer is a big fan of the K&N filter as it has a much better perimeter seal rubber and stuck one in mine pre delivery
I have to say after 18.000 k’s of dirt road it has maintained a perfect seal I did put my OEM filter back in when it was due for a clean/ replacement

I hope that is not one of their oil filters, good at keeping rocks out but that’s about it

Yep it is  I don’t feel overly comfortable with the concept which is why i put the OEM unit back in. The filtered side of the air box was spotless though so it definitely did the job. I removed it mainly because I don’t want it to become a potential warranty excuse should the situation arise.

My understanding is the K&N air filters are as you say serviceable & have a 10 year warranty(limited to what?).

They even state "Each performance air filter is reusable, engineered to last for the entire lifespan of your vehicle, and backed by K&N's 10-Year/Million Mile Limited Warranty.

I just bought one to fit when I do my snorkel for that reason, plus they say the airflow is even better than OEM so might give a bit more performance?

Yes I know you can clean and re-oil them but I would rather just replace them with a new pre oiled one so you know they are in their best working order

Crazy good,
Really is a game changer for 4wd filtration. Expensive outlay and filters but chances are you won’t need to change the element for 50-100k

just a shame it took 15 years to get there.

Technology improvements are always good. I doubt it will be easy on the wallet.

I am more of a city and highway driver so only on the rare occasions would I hit dust…if ever.

If you were in a convoy on a dusty road, wouldn’t it be wiser to hold back further as the following vehicle? The UHF covers a big distance, and it would stop the bonnet paint and windscreen chips as a bonus :)

Air box filters are not that expensive and are easy to install. It shouldn’t be difficult to check the filter installation after you get it back from the service (for peace of mind). I’ll check mine tonight if I can be bothered going into the garage.

This thread has got me interested in spending more money…cheaply. The Terrain Tamer air filter insert looks like it would fix the problem. The air filter insert stops the potential box spread/deform, adds smidge more surface interface width and the thickness adds a smidge of compression. Win win win?

Please help me spend my money…cheaply.

I will drop you a message. I hope you can insult me with ‘cheap’. I want to be insulted! :-D
I too have purchased a lot of stuff in advance that I have not used in my build. Mainly minor electrical stuff.
Your steel air box setup is killer. Polishing that stainless steel will be a maintenance task.
