From everyone that knew and had been out driving with Mal (Mongrel Lux), our sympathy goes out to his family.

Mal (Malcolm Bruce Shields) died last Thursday. His funeral is yet to be announced but is expected to be this Thursday. Local papers will have these details for those wishing to attend.

SHIELDS. - Malcolm Bruce. 18.09.1963 - 04.08.2011 Dearly loved youngest son of Rupert (dec.) and Noeline, loved brother of Tony, Derek, Gary and Peter (dec.), died suddenly at home. What can one say. This has cone as a massive shock to me as it would have to all those that has the pleasure of meeting Mal.
This is a big loss to all those in the 4wding community. Mal would be the first to put his hand up if help was needed.
My deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends.

RIP Mal (Mongrel Lux)
You will be sadly missed.

R.I.P Mal .
As with so many other forum members who call past to simply say gday - Saturdays was when we would most likely see Mal call past for a cuppa and chat .
Mal and his stories of 4x4 trips will be missed by all at GOR

Mal and his stories of 4x4 trips will be missed by all at GOR

Ahh the stories, about how he reduced his long range tank capacity by 30 ltrs or so, and the stories of how much grip his Xtremes had (anyone who was lucky enough to hear the stories would know what im talking about). Lets not forget the advise Mal was always happy to give on tire pressures and what line to take, the best tires or swag, or anything else he thought he could help out with.
Its people like Mal who make sites like this one what they are, the years of experience he had and was happy to pass on to others, a vast knowledge of the high country, and the willingness to take others with him on his trips. Rain, Hail, Snow, it didnt matter, there are many trip reports from trips with Mal in all different weather.
Mals passing is a loss to all who knew him, but its also a huge loss to this site / community, as people as giving of their time and knowledge are a rare breed.
This loss will be felt by many many people, more than we could realise, which to me proves he was one of the true gentlemen of our great pass time.

Rest well mate

Just had a thought. Can everyone please post up any photos of Mal and his Lux. This can be a lasting memory to him and his love of 4wding.
If we get enough up I will print them out and take them to his funeral and pass them on to someone in his family.
If you have the ability to put you user name on before posting them up that would be great too. (can be done in paint shop)

Thanks all.
