Good Points
hasn't blown as many head gaskets as my v6 forerunner did. :(
actually it hasn't blown any head gaskets :)
real throttle with no electronic brain deciding what i want the engine to do.
doesn't have the gay curved rear body of the ML triton's

Bad Points
ground clearance could be better. turning circle larger than i'd like.

What mods have you done?
driving lights, winch, bar, long range tank, canopy, storage drawers, dual batteries

What mods are on the list to do?
replace shocks and torsion bars

Why did you buy this vehicle?
had the basics for a touring vehicle, price, warranty

How often do you go offroad?
few times a year

What will your next vehicle be?
don't want to think about it

G'day greybeard. Nice lookin unit. Interested in what you say about "real throttle?" Is your fuel pump mechanical and not electronic?

definitely mechanical.
my forerunner ( 3.0 v6 petrol ) had electronic throttle and it was a pain in the ass at light throttle settings. i've also had a suzuki baleno and the mrs has a suzuki sx4. both of these had similar symptoms. the sx4 if you drive it like a normal vehicle ( ie backing off the throttle while depressing the clutch ) surges by upto an extra 500rpm. only way to drive it is to back off the throttle then depress the clutch.

i'm more of a slow and steady driver and prefer to drive with the throttle ( manual gearbox ). at low rev's i haven't yet found an electronic brain that will allow you to do that smoothly and consistantly. it may be better with an auto gearbox but i don't want an auto.
the smarts in vehicles is definitely getting better. but i still like the concept of being able to drive a vehicle and have it do what i want rather than what it thinks i want.

and yes, i know, i'm paying for it in fuel economy.
