Manual free wheeling hub problem.

Hi all.
I’ve recently purchased a 2013 79 series Landcruiser which needed its manual free wheeling hub replaced. Now I’ve put the new one together and for some reason it will not sit flush for me to bolt onto the wheel unless the circlip on the cv inside isn’t there. Do I need the circlip? Can anyone tell my why it wouldn’t be sitting flush? It’s about maybe 3mm out from sitting flush.

Did you pack it with grease? Too much grease might stop the locking collar from fully disengaging when in the free position.

I might also be talking out my arse.

Only a normal amount of grease. Something is going on cause I tried the hub on LHS wheel and it worked fine.. only the RHS I’m having a problem with! Do I need the circlip?

Hub is assembled correctly, it’s brand new. When I get to this step, it will not not sit flush. But, if I remove the circlip inside, it fits no problem and the hub locks and unlocks.

Is it the right FWH?
Is the body/spacer bit between the actual hub and the knob selector bit exactly the same on both the old and the new one?

You could try fitting it while the hub is in the lock position, I know on Patrols with auto hubs, they will only fit if the hubs are in the lock position, and they sit out a little if not, maybe the Toyota hubs have a similar quirk......worth trying.

No idea if it is "side specific" but - as the left hand one fits / works, try that one on the right hand side..... if it fits, then there is something clearly wrong with the right hand one you are having trouble with

Did you sort this out? What was the result?
