Hi all

Unfortunately I recently drowned my Hilux and although I have most things sorted out, I'm having a problem with my headlights.

I have checked the wiring and all seems ok, however I can't get the low beam to work, only high beam.

Anyone have any suggestions

Thanks in advance for your help

I havent done a lot of work on hiluxes, BUT have you changed the relay for the headlights ?? its like a $10 part and you should have one in the spares box anyway.

You wouldn't believe but twice now my self and a mate had same color problem. And both times it was just blown globes x2. So could be something similar. If you're lucky any way :)

Hi JOe
Thanks for the quick feedback and suggestion, the only comment I have is would it be the relay if I'm getting power at the headlights?

ONE relay has TWO contacts
one is for high beam, the other is for low beam
usually anyway, as I said I havent done much work on 'luxes'
another real ***** with all toyotas is the pissweak wire they use
and ,can I say " very average connectors"
it sounds like a *****, BUT a coupla stubbies and a can of WD40
( although I prefer RP7) and disconnect EVERY connector you can find
in front of the engine
BE GENTLE !!!!!!!!! its not hard. If they wont come apart straight away spray em
and wait!!! then try again.
I know croozers use the cheapest nastiest wire ever invented,
if luxes are the same then Im sure that cleaning the connectors will work.
When a real "sticky" one presents itself, unplug it and spray the shi**a outa it
plug it back in and out 10 times!!!
do that to all of em!!! I bet even the temp guage will work properly after it :D
I dunno how good yer eyes are??? but check the connectors( the nylon bits that hold the actual electrical parts) for any browning that ISNT mud and crud!!
that means overheating and melting. Ya need replace the whole connector if thats in evidence. they actually only cost a few bucks. BUT and yep theres ALWAYS a butt, ya need a special crimp tool to reattach the brass ( REAL connectors are phosphor bronze) 'lectrical" bits. They can of course be soldered, BUT need a little skill as the brass is pretty crappy and ya can soften the brass itself, which means back to square one

Have you checked the plug with a multimeter on the low beam side?
