Lift kits & drop boxes

Hi all,

Just posted an intro thread, but new here. Please be gentle, very newb at this.

I've just bought an '89 GQ SWB with a 4" lift, and 35" tyres. She also has drop boxes installed for the lift.

I'm planning on dropping her back to a 2" lift and 33" tyres, and keeping her at that height. I've done some reading, but there's nothing definite about whether or not the drop boxes definitely need to be taken out. They're obviously not really required with a 2" lift, but will keeping them in be detrimental?

Anyway, picking her up soon then will start to get her ready for club rego.

Cheers
Mel

At 2 in you can probably use castor correction bushes and that should be enough to maintain good drive. My car drove with nothing but castor correction bushes for 5 years and it was as good as factory from memory at that lift.

With the drop boxes at 2 in are going to reduce your ground clearance and aren't really necessary I Would personally not be running them. I don't remember for a fact whether or not they're going to limit suspension travel or affect the range of travel in a negative way. I would suggest the easiest way would be to call someone like superior engineering and just ask them straight up.

Being a short wheel base and being a lifted that much you might find it's got modified drive shafts and you might want to check their length before you drop it.

Sell the drop boxes and just fit some radius arm spacers.

Simple to fit and works fine.

Thanks for the replies... so common consensus is remove. I just googled how to do it - looks like a big job so when she's on the hoist on Friday I'll ask the boys how much to remove them for me.

Cheers
