Through Mayford
Nope Mayford is a no through road one way in one way out, you are probably seeing Mayford Spur track from Dinner plain that has been shut for quite some time
What he said.

The quickest way would be to go through Hotham turning left onto the High Plains Rd.

Denk. Also while you are at Dinner Plian, do yourself a favour and go for a short drive to the Precipice Plain escarpment / lookout. When you drive out to the Great Alpine Rd from Dinner Plain, head toward Hotham. About 350m on the left is the Dinner Plain Track. Turn left onto that and head south for about 5km. It looks like you are on private property but you aren't. There is a fence on the left side of the road. You will see the lookout area on the right. Great views over the escarpment, Dargo River and Mt Tabletop. You can go all the way to Dargo on that track.

If you have an Android phone or tablet download Peak finder, then in the menu look for downloading Victoria. It knows where you are and your altitude, and creates a sketch of the mountains from where you are viewing. It can overlay that over a photo so you know which mountain you are looking at. It's brilliant. It will be great for when you get to the top of Bluerag too.

Don't forget the Carmicheal Falls walk . Off the track between Dinner Plain and Precipice Plain. After that do the Victoria River Track through to Cobungra then at Cobungra visit The Victoria River Falls.

True it's one of the best waterfalls in Vic when flowing, but you want to do that after a lot of rain if possible. It drys out to a trickle fairly quickly.

Black Sallee Lake on the Vic. River Track is a great spot to camp or lunch. (can't find the photos at the moment)
