June long weekend - Brindabella trip

"Volunteer"... I like the sound of doing something good for the community by camping, relaxing and driving around the mountains. If I ever get into trouble with the law I wonder if this would count as community service?

So do we have a meet up area worked out yet ?
What about Wee Jasper? I think there is a small pub there

Wee Jasper is right at the top end - you will then need to drive about 80km on the road to get to the areas being discussed in this thread. You might want to also rethink the pub bit as well as more often than not it is closed.

For a RV you might want to think about the Cotter Rec area or the Uriarra Crossing car park - or even at Maccas in Weston - you can get a boutique beer across the road.

For RV? I'm confused?

@RODEODAVE maybe weejasper could be good meet spot. Since we haven't dreamt one up yet!

I imagine as usual I will be a few hours behind the finish at Midday friday crew so I'll just meet at camp. Where that's gonna be not sure yet.

Wee jasper is paid camping... About $10 from memory.

You can run back into the Brindies on the dirt through Doctors flat or out and around through the state forests. Either option is about 60-80km and a couple of hours to get back to picadilly circus.

On the plus side less chance of bogans and probably a safer bet for leaving a base camp although it is a long way out

Just be aware that the southern end of Doctors Flat Road is a private road and the owners does not want people using it - so if you come down that road from the north you will need to turn off onto other tracks at some point before the closed section.

If you zoom in to the 200m scale on Google Maps you will see plenty of options. From Wee Jasper the easiest is to start on Drs Flat Road then turn on to the Webb Ridge Trail so you go down the guts of the Brindabella NP - to the west is MacIntyre Hut, the east is Mt Coree and to the south is Flea Creek - all accessed from Webb Ridge Trail. The bogholes off the Powerline/2 Sticks Track are closed - again because the Bogans were chopping it all up and killing off the Corroboree frogs and their breeding areas.

If you come up Brindabella Road and want to go up to Mt Coree (a must visit), Pabral Road to the north of Mt Coree is closed but I think that Curries Road around the south is still open - I think Mt Coree itself is still open.

The long weekend is Bogan Heaven up there but they tend not to camp too far in so mainly Flea Creek - Lowells Flat should be good - also lots of bikes and ATVs doing a high speed around blind corners on the wrong side of the road so care is needed.
