It starts again , this time a little different , I'm building another mini tourer.
I know everyone is going to say it can't be down, jimnys are way to small .. well I beg to differ ... back packers travel with only a back pack , light think smart light weight with the bare essentials.

    The vehicle
    2004 jlx suzuki jimny
    Engine : M13a
    Options : ps,ac,central locking , power windows

    The plan :
Build a capable two person offroader with a 5x4 aluminium trailer.

    Goodies coming :

    M16aa with a rotax sc suercharger .
    Add engineering bash gaurds
    Sliders
    Leopard barwork fr/rear
Swing away with jerrys and fridge mount
    6000ld light weight utv winch
    30x9.5 15 bfg TA
    Hp electric lockers
    Cargo cage
    Dual batterys
    Sierra transfer 17% gearing drop
    Procomp 3" kit
    More once this is done

First job on the cards was removing the seats and fitting a flat floor.

I used 20mm Marine ply and covered it in 4mm checkerplate rubber from bunnings.

Second job was to fit a cargo cage , jimny ones being upward of $500 I decided to go with a 2007 rav4 cage , these are a similar shape and only need to be trimmed to 1140 from 1200 to gain a perfect fitment.
The sides I plan to weld in some flat stock to have some side rigidity back in the barrier .

    Battery system
The 3rd mod for the weekend was fitting a optima yellow top and a redarc smart monitor for both batterys.
I had a hilux dual battery tray laying around so i decided to use this , it only needed a new hole drilled and a bracked made for the left hand side underneath Snapchat-301760280.jpg

    Dash mods
After fitting the batterys I decided I needed to monitor them so I brought myself a raceface battery monitor gauge from ebay
While I was at it I purchased a oil pressure gauge and a pod to mount them in.
I Cut a hole in the dash and fitted the gauge pod using 3m glue to glue it in and proceeded to smooth everything off .

Ipad in a jimny dash :
I am one of those guys that hates plastic suckers all over the windscreen and I use a ipad with mudmap for navigation purposes, my samsung with mm tracker and a back up paper map .
I decided to fit a ipad mini 4g to the dash for these duties aswell as spotify and what ever other app we will need.

so at this point I undid all the previous work I had done undercoating the dash , i cut out the heater vents and main control bezel . Snapchat-1208774894.jpg Snapchat-1335627372.jpg
The plan is to use a soundmanCA opad mini slider kit for ease of removel. DSC00101_480x480.jpeg DSC00104_480x480.jpeg DSC00131_480x480.jpeg

    A cargo barrier!
Now why didn't I think of that when I was touring in a Sierra and had the bloody dog bouncing from the back to the front to the back....

2004 suzuki Jimny custom roof console .
Finally finished fitting my roof console to the jimny , I used 4x angle brackets , tapped the two rear holes in the roof out to m10 and picked the front mounting location off the interior light position while i was there i adapted a rear led light to the interior light .
