Hey mate,

I can't believe no one has answered this one yet!!! Generally there would have all the Patrol and Cruiser guys telling you what a bad idea it was. :)

We love the 4 door wranglers and with the TD it would be quite economical. I have a Jeep Patriot which is pretty dodgey offroad, but the wranglers are completely different. Like most vehicles it helps having a bit of lift and a decent set of tires, but apart from that you would be good to go. The one deterrent for us was the lack of boot space. With a family of 4 we need to pack everything plus a kitchen sink so that was a big consideration.

Good luck with it, let us know how you go.

Yeah, for all the Patriot's offroad foibles, it is very economical. I love it when people start hassling me about fuel consumption. I am getting 6.3lt/100 at the moment. That is pretty damn good for a vehicle of that size.

Well done VZss80, although I no longer get involved in the hard stuff (hey man I'm over 70), I still enjoy my moderate trips off road. I've a 2.8 CRD Cherokee (also black!), and I find it a great little truck. I pull a 'van effortlessly with the little unit, and the economy of 7 litres per 100 klm is amazing, although if you decide to push along as I did recently when pulling my 'van to Orange from the Central Coast, this 7 litres per can quickly alter to 10 or 12 litres per. Still, this is my first driveable Jeep (I started restoring a CJ3B back in the '80s but ended up sellng it before it was completed - now I'm sorry that I sold it, what a great retirement challenge it would have made), and I'm wrapped. I would like an extra couple of inches height, but apparently the front independent suspension makes it a bit expensive to do, and it really isn't all that necessary for what I'm doing. GO JEEP.
