What do you guys think about the new Jeep Gladiator that is due for release in Australia mid way through the year?
I’m a Toyota bloke myself but I gotta say I think this rig looks epic!
Anyone planning on getting one?

Jeep deserve all the shit that they get on this one.
Wheeling out a LHD one in NZ , then bringing it here.
Cant provide ETA , specs or price for the Australian market.
Yet , deposits have been taken and delivery dates given.
I love my Jeeps , but they have stuffed this one up.

Jeez yeah that ain’t great!
It will be interesting to see how it goes in the competitive 4WD Ute market here.
What do you reckon it will be a rival to?

Depends on spec , motor and price.
Prices from $68K to $98K are being thrown around.
Can pick up a JLU Rubicon for $63K if you pester them enough.
JT sells for US$2000 more than JLU in the states.
JT isn't meant to attract the luxury car tax that the JLU does.
Who knows.
The Rubicon version will be the most capable stock twin cab available in Australia when it comes out.

Think the have a lot of convincing for anyone to believe buying any Jeep is a good thing?????

They run up to $65k USD = $99k AU and thats with the v6 petrol engine. That is the most exxy version, but I wouldn't expect the base model to be any more than $30k cheaper. That puts them a fair way up there.
The first 5000 released to the US market sold out in 24 hrs apparently.

While the whole "Jeep is a lemon" thing is definitely a popular opinion, you only need to look at the number of them on the road each day to realise that there are plenty of people who still rate them.

Prior to my Triton I had a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It was a great car, I'd happily have another after that one (assuming it suited my needs/budget at the time etc etc).. Personally, I really like the look/idea of the Gladiator, but have to admit I haven't dug too deeply in to the specs etc yet. Since buying the Triton I have said I'd keep it until I could afford a 79 series, but I reckon the Gladiator could swing me in that direction instead when the time comes.

Edit - Just went and read that article. Lol @ quoting Whirlpool. That forum has more whingers and know-it-alls than anywhere else on the interwebs I'd say haha. I don't think there's a single thread on there that doesn't turn in to a p*ssing match between google masters trying to prove how much smarter they are than everyone else. If you go by Whirlpool, almost every single product/vehicle/company/service/whatever is a lemon.

Ain’t that the truth, stopped visiting there many years ago, although this forum has had some issues from time to time, I’m so glad it’s nothing like it...
Members can generally have there say without know it all smart asses on there case all the time...

I wonder if you read my posted article in full? Fact speaks for themself. I am not saying Jeeps are good or bad, however warranty, repairs, customer service all comes into it and this was lacking with quite a few owners a while ago. All went viral and I reckon that was not good for Fiat/Chrysler. Quote from the article "Jeep sales slumped from a high of 30,408 in 2014 to just 8270 in 2017. They have dipped another 8.7 per cent in 2018. " I followed this saga, especially with the way they treated Ashton Wood, Teggs and others in Australia where literally millions of people followed this stupid lack of customer service, warranty, etc. which went world wide including China.

I skimmed it and agree 100% that the numbers tell a story (although i don’t recall if the numbers were put in perspective at all in current market conditions / against other manufacturers or not.. which does change the story). That story though is only with regard to new car sales, and there was also an important point in there about the distinction between Jeep sales in the 4x4 sector (with wrangler / GC) vs the others (ie the compass) - Jeep’s offerings outside of their core are and always have been poorly received.

My point still stands though.. I pass ALOT of Jeeps on the road every day, so there are clearly still plenty of people out there who rate them. New car sales aren’t the be all and end all.

ford , toyota blah blah also treat their customers just as bad. Just for some reason don't get beat up by the media as much as jeep does . The gladiator would be awesome if the made it available in aus with the 3l crd from my grand cherokee, then it would be a beast . 185kw/570nm stock . jeep dealers just like the other manufacturers are a ripoff. my grand cherokee has done 200K with no major issues and serviced by a mechanic i trust and knows the car well .

I agree I have a WK2 with 110000 on the clock no issues. People who are quick to rubbish jeep have never driven one

I know what cars have the most issues after years of 4wding and countless trips with every 4wd ever made just from first hand experience.
it’s not Toyota or Nissan or even Land Rovers.
I also know which ones I have seen break the most diffs and CV’s but that’s not Jeeps

I know lots of horror stories involving Toyota but that's ok it's just a Toyota thing.

Have a look at the JD Power statistics, pick any year you like. As I said good to hear you are having a good run but you can’t argue the facts.

I've had 2 Jeeps in the family and both have done mid 200k kms with no major issues but quite a few annoying little ones. Neither has left me on the side of the track. I can understand both why people like them, and why they get sick of them. Frankly, if they didn't have the annoying issues they'd easily outsell Toyotas on looks, drivability, comfort, power, fuel economy, standard features and off road prowess. But that's just my opinion. :)

I guess this sums it up, there are 2 types of people when it comes to cars, those who put reliability above all else and those who put the driving experience and car ownership first and are prepared to cop the few little issues.

I thought the issue with the Gladiator Jeep is its payload. rear axle load and towing ability (or not). Looks the goods but can it do it as well?

Yes they look the part but I lost interest when the payload is topped out with a push bike and two boogie boards
