Is it just my thoughts, or are 4wders their own worst enemies?

Come up here and I'll show you Quay st. That'll fix ya.

Sounds a bit like Orchid Avenue??

But we have gutters on the side of the road down here, that's why we need 4bys!

AND the drunks!! They're stacked 6 feet tall by 3 am. DEFINENTLY need a 4by to get over them!!

Spent all day Saturday out on Farnborough Beach..........And never rolled a tyre off the rim.

I used to surf at that beach when i was staying at Yeppoon for a few months (only wind swell,it sucked!),whats Byfeild National Park like now?
They where going to shut down a few beachs & tracks, because of a few d**kheads that where wrecking the place.:(We went to a rally one day there & there were a few f**kwits that were driving like absolute twits that day.:mad:Out of about 150 people that turned up,about 15 people cleaned up(& we were there on holidays from NSW & we still did a big clean up)

Not many obeyed the rules they were speeding, littering, driving eratic, drink driving,etc.... everyone else didnt give a rats arse, know wonder National Parks & residents wanted to restrict access to a few places.
If they did shut down alot of the tracks, then they should blame a few of those idiots for again wrecking a nice spot.

Not sure about others from this forum, but how many of you visit other 4wd forums & just shake your heads in disbelief?...

Is it just me, or has the 4wd fraternity totally changed & taken a turn for the worse.?...

Seems to me, that these days to be a 'real 4wder' you have to fit into the following criteria;

1. Have no regard for others who share the 4wd tracks, so drive as fast as you can for
starters & dont even consider that someone might be coming the other way.
2. Set up camp somewhere & keep all & sundry awake all night with loud music etc.
3. Think that doing donuts around camping grounds is all part of 4wding & driving closed
tracks is 'cool'.
4. Drive in '2wd' for as long as you can to try to proove that your vehicle is better.
5. Think that getting damage to your vehicle by trying to driving a track/section that is
impossible means you are a 'legend'.
6. Last but not least; blame the greenies/govt for tracks getting closed or police for
putting off the many unroadworthy 4wds that are on our roads. In other words, take
no responsibility for their own actions & blame everyone else.

Point i'm trying to make is that as a reasonably new member here, havent really seen that mentality on this forum...yet. Must admit, that the popularity of this site has increased drematically over the last few months & I hope this site doesnt go the way of many other 4wd forums....:(

Or am I being a little too padantic; unfortunately I dont think so. Until many of us are prepared to bite the bullet & report the morons who continue to wreck our favourite recreation, we will have nowhere to drive in the not too distant future. Probably the wrong forum to use to vent my anger, but lets not let the moderaters fall into the same trap that other forums have fallen into.

Cheers

Hi allanmac,
In my wife & I's travels,I have to agree with ALL that you have said.
Alot of people (NOT ALL,but we are getting smaller in this minority:( ) now have got NO respect for anyone or anything,
as with my other posts in other parts of this forum, dictates about the demise of human decency on our roads whether it be on the black top or dirt.:(:(.
It really sucks!!!!
Also I still don't think that just because your in the bush by YOURSELF,means that you can run amuck & rip the place up,disturb the wild life & wreck the place for the next people that are going to be there.
THIS IS FOR OTHER MEMBERS THAT THE BUSH IS TO BE LEFT IN A GOOD STATE,NOT TRASHED AS OTHER PEOPLE THINK IT SHOULD BE!!!!!!!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

I believe it is because they see the comp rigs and want to have a vehicle that looks tough too, and try to emulate what they do, little do they know that these vehicles are not road worthy, and are trailered in and out of the comp areas.
It all comes down to driver attitude also, if someone drives a commodore aggresively, put them in a 4B and they will drive it the same way, they just don't understand that a 4B is different to drive.
It is also a society that has become like America, where you are blameless, it is always someone elses fault, just look at the law suits over there, how can someone use a normal hammer drill and think it is a dentists drill, and end up putting the drill through the roof of there mouth and end up suing the manufacturer of the drill because they didn't say it was not a dentist drill.
go figure!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes you are partly rite there with some people wanting comp truck look alikes and being hoons and giving every one a bad name . others just like big trucks
But I have seen bog standard new 4x4s doing stupid things as well trying to impress there mates ,or attempting tracks with standard tyres and road pressures in them . ( doing same amount if not more damage ) standard tyres = lots of wheel spin in the dry or wet and then havin them at road pressures .
Just because someone has a big rig dose not automactically make them a hoon as properly driven they are more capable and will do less damage than a standard 4x4 -bigger tyre aired down = bigger foot print if DRIVEN correctly= less wheel spin and less damage .it just so happens most of the hoons do drive bigger 4x4s .
Some of the magazines we all enjoy reading also give people stupid ideas / mods that dont always work . It comes down to education -letting people know you do not need to hit everything flat knacker and do ing donuts and ripping up camp sites does not mean you are 4wheel driving .
Hope this hasnt upset anyone on put any one off in any way ,just my morning thoughts .
oh ye no all comp trucks are trailed to events either and some of them are road registered and engineered

Depending on the state, in Qld they are trailered, yes they are registered, BUT they are not roadworthy, they are only registered so that they can get insurance for themselves, and so the event organiser can get insurance.

Yep that sound about right. I noticed camping a few weeks ago is a quite area someone cracked the volume to 11 in the bush ware many other people were having a quite one. Respect is a dying attribute in sociality.

i've had that, camped in a nice spot, went out to do some 4b-ing, came back to camp, and some young group of about 15-20 had camped right next to me (eventhough is was an extremely large area and nobody else around) and was playing loud music and yelling and smashing bottles, and would not stop even after asking them to, however I sorted them out when they went to sleep (eventually).

i have to agree with you 100% Allan,
Yes it is getting a problem, i like to try some of the more challanging tracks from time to time, but also enjoy a nice quite drive just to get away from the rat race. I cant afford to bust my truck up, so i will try to take the best line , use diff locks, and hopefully sense over right foot. I dont understand people that go out camping and play thier music at full volume, i go aout to get away from it all.

A big problem that i have noticed is peoples attitudes on the road, tailgating and the like. Everybody seems to be in a hurry and have no respect for anybody. I feel that when a 4wd does it , it is more notacable due to the size of the 4wd, but then all makes and models of cars do it

I think it has a lot to do with the amount of brains handed out at birth, some people were just in the wrong line and others think it makes them hero's by ripping up perfectly good grassed areas and think that the bush is a dumping place for their rubbish.
We on this site try really hard to promote good sense and although that is hard for the thought challenged idiots out there most us respect what is available to us and look after what we all enjoy, speak up if you see someone doing the wrong thing.
Just my two bobs worth.

Couldnt agree more Grumpy with what you said about this site..:D & alot of the other comments that have been posted. As I mentioned in my earlier post, seems to me that the majority here are respectful of both other bush users & the places we drive. Am sure we all like a 'challenge' as such from time to time as driving places like Marginal Road can get pretty boring..:) I think most of us agree that it is becoming worse & more widespread. Years ago in Melb it tended to be confined to the places like Toolangi, Mt Dissa, Bunyip, Warby etc, but this is now moving to places like Walhalla & the high country..:(

So how does a person try to stop it? Is a 'big ask' to go & ask politely for some to turn the music down or stop being an idiot etc, as it has been mentioned some just want to start 'fistycuffs'. Whilst I originally felt uncomfortable doing it, I have reported a few to the authorities with pics as evidence etc. The thing is; "What I term as inappropriate, may not be seen that way by others". We have ALL done the odd silly thing; no one is perfect, so there must be some leeway here, but the circle work, driving closed tracks where is it OBVIOUS it is closed are 2 where I draw the line.

In regard to the comments about 'comp or heavily modified' 4wds, it does seem that they tend to be the worst offenders in most cases. As was mentioned earlier, might be because they are far more noticible on the tracks & the roads. BTW, even as a 'old tosser', nothing against them as such as a few in our group have them, BUT they release the 'ego' stuff in the competitions, not on public tracks or roads, as they are aware of how much their vehicles stand out.

Sorry about the novel guys & gals..

Ahh memories! Yes as you and me both know about comp vehicles.
I might have slowed one down :D

allanmac it's comments like yours and many others that people put on sites like this that go a long way to educate some of the many people that do not understand the ramifications of their abuse to the areas which have been spoken about. Any effort to protect what we already have is never regarded as futile by the ones who love the magic of these and other areas.

In regard to illegal tracks and unacceptable behaviour on this forum, myself, and the other moderators, will not tolerate it! As soon as we are aware of illegal driving on tracks, the said posts are deleted and a PM sent to the person concerned.

We try to keep the forum light hearted, and while it is not the most technical site around, it remains one of the more enjoyable. A lot goes on behind the scenes to keep the need for flame suits etc out of this forum.

Cheers Rossco

Without Bullshitting in anyone's pocket, although we the Moderators and admin do a lot to keep this site a pleasure for all I think it's only fitting that each and every person here also get some credit for the forum. I feel it is one of the best forums around and thank all for making it exactly that.
