Gday everyone. Calling out anyone who has a front mount intercooler on there trusty ln106. I’m keen as to put one on my olegirl along with a snorkel,to help keep my EGT’S down as low as possible. I would really appreciate it if you could put some pics of pipe work and the intercooler for some reference. I have a standard ct20 from a surf. I’m running 10psi of boost and getting up to 500 degrees @ 80kph up a step hill. Plus I’ll be towing a camper trailer.

cheers people

Hey mate, I don’t have an intercooler yet, but am running 10psi as well. Think my egts are ok but not amazing. Something to think about with a front mount is that the heat that’s blown off the intercooler is then blown on to the radiator, which aren’t amazing to start with in an ln106.
I’m thinking of water to air with the water radiator mounted under the tray with thermo fans. Just don’t like to add more moving parts to such a simple vehicle.

Mmmm might have to look into that. From everything I see with front mount’s a lot of cutting needs to be done, grill, holes for piping.

yeh I know, every option has a trade off, I can’t figure out which way to go, small top mount appeals the most due to its simplicity, but then I need a scoop, not so keen on that either.

Lol I like the the thought of a scoop lol. But don’t like the idea of heat saturation. The next question is what to get a top mount from? Gu,hilux or anything with a top mount. Preferably something that can be done quick and easy, being time poor and all

I’ve done a fair bit of reading and thinking about the top mount because I love simplicity. (To be honest I’ve even thought of taking the turbo off altogether)
Air will only flow into the scoop if there is less pressure inside the engine bay than outside, if not it will just sit there. also if it does flow into the engine bay and through the cooler it will be increasing the air pressure in the engine bay from standard and making less of a pressure difference for the radiator to flow air well. There’s a bit in it to make it work well.

Well Gday. I’ve finally fitted the intercooler lol. And now my egt gage isn’t working (it’s being temprormental) lol. But it does seem to make a difference when it does work my egt are under 300. Also helps the new motor
