Insurance companies

Hi,
This topic HAS been covered in the past, but I would like to re-visit the questions.

What insurance companies are you using?
How have they been in response to any claims?
(Great, good, ‘average’, or just do not bother)
What are the dramas, problems, or absolutely GREAT things that have occurred when you have been dealing with the insurance company you use? (you can have good or bad experience with both bad and good insurance companies)
Tell us the positives with bad companies and the negatives with good insurance companies.
I am sure there will be LOTS of great, good, average and poor things that can be related to for everyone else to agree, disagree, sympathise and or discuss.

I am having trouble insuring my rig as they say market value for my jeep is stuff all, i will never get my money for it, although spending about 10 grand easy doing transmission, steering & suspension, cooling system, Motor, upgrades
let alone the money spent on accessories, winch, Bull bar. recovery gear, camper annexes, fridges, Dual batteries, solar setup, lights, etc. about another 10 grand of stuff
havent found one yet who will realistic value the rig or accessories.
Our 4x4s cost lots of money, endless yeah so we do deserve to get reasonable price for older rigs and accessories paying insurance
Isnt That what its for

This topic has been covered many times. And unfortunatley every persons risk will be evaluated differently. Even the same person parked in the garage or front drive, or who moves 1 km away will have different premiums and coverage. Also many people haven't checked their PDF lately and may get some shocks like I did about river corssings about 12 months ago. It was removed from an insurable event.

I suggest you read what has been said many times before and then do your homework. There is no short cut to doing your own homework. And you get what you pay for.

My only advice is you car is of any value is to get a poicy that allows you to chose your own repairer.

Or agreed value policy. With option to buy back if it's written off. It's more work but you have more control.

One has to be careful criticising companies in a public forum without proof.
I’m not asking for speculation, but actual results.
If you have had great, good, or otherwise results from the insurance company you are with.
Even insurance companies cannot sue you for telling the truth about what occurred.

Have you attempted to go ‘agreed value’?

yes matey its better than market, problem is market value is 2200 finding one company that would do agreed value at 4500 no accessories
most companies i researched would only do the 2200 with buggar all for accessories
98% of the companies said i was better off just getting 3rd party and cop the loss on me rig

NSW equivalent is NRMA. they are expensive, and will find any excuse to to not pay. I use bingle. Last accident I had about 5 years ago. Dent in tailgate, bump in front damaged grill & radiator, minor buckle in front guards, after someone rear ended me & pushed me into the car in front. Damage was about $1000 + paint. The paint cost wrote it off. Repairer did not want to let it leave the shop without a full respray, cause it would look bad on his business. So they wrote it off. They paid me out $5800, and I bought it back for $1800( I think) it cost me about $500 for parts and a couple of days work. Couple of years later I repainted it with raptor, so, now, it's still going, and it turned out to be a fair outcome for m e.
If it was a newish vehicle, maybe id rethink the strategy, but for an old car, it worked out.

I was forced by nrma to engage a forensic engineer to prove a simple claim. Awful experience with them.

I have seen on some sites that club 4X4 are good with covering the cost of the vehicle and accessories, (but the catch is that they need receipts for all your accessories your claiming)
Do not know how correct or incorrect this info is though.

I would cal club 4x4 if it was you but look closely at the fine print regarding water crossings, you can have extended recovery cover and make shore you are sitting down when you look at it he premiums
I am with RACV with all my policies and have always found them to be very good

I'm with Club 4x4. They will cover your vehicle for an agreed value along with all your modifications. They didn't require receipts for the mods but ask you to list them on a spreadsheet along with their purchase price and location of purchase too. They are NOT cheap, mind you.

And they have added an extra line in their policy last year regarding water crossings as Matt said. However, it merely requires you to have made an attempt to walk or otherwise assess the crossing before plowing through it. Which is fair enough, if I can't see the bottom of a crossing I either walk it or send a mate in on foot. I also have $10k worth of vehicle recovery insurance included which gives me a bit of piece of mind as I often go out solo.

As I said though, you DO pay for it. Certainly more than standard comprehensive insurance. Insurance is one of those things though. You don't need it until you do. It's a false economy simply taking the cheapest insurance possible only to find out you're on your own when you really need it.

I was with RAA in S.A. for many, many years and never had an issues with claims in that time ( a couple roos strikes, one where someone tail ended my parked vehicle and a couple windscreens). Always great service and multi policy discounts were great.
