If you haven't purchased the lights yet, then the following is about the only advice I can give you, for general driving the combining of having one being a narrow beam and the other a broad beam is the go , narrow beam on the drivers side and broad on the passenger side . What you spend is a whole different matter and there have been several threads started on this one versus another.

If you are doing hill work or on bush tracks in solid bush, then really the length of the spotties isn't an issue , even the cheapies will do the job adequately. Where beam concentration and length come into the equation is on those long flat runs like the Calder highway up to Mildura. Whilst a predator type of light is the optimum, it is a hell of expense .

I have Hella 4000's on my rig, had them for years, am quite satisfied with them, having a mate that works at Hella did influence my choice a bit , got them 1/2 price .

Most auto elec's consider the looms usually provided a bit light on too . The usuall accepted way of wiring them in is to come on when your Hi - Beams come on with a switch to have them off as well, one must not forget the relay as well .

Hi Bandit599, these two diagrams may help you. I’ve posted diagrams for both negative switched and positive switched headlights so anybody else considering the same thing can do it no matter what type of vehicle they have.

The diagrams show the relay pin connections and recommended cable sizes for the best results.

Forget all the wiring diagrams, just go out and spend about $30 on a complete wiring kit, then it is just plug in and play, you only have to disconnect it when you put the wires through the firewall, and it is the correct size wires and relays.

Agree with Croozza, purchase the wiring loom unless you love building looms and have the time on equipment to make it. Purchase a good quality one not one from supercheap.

Genuine Mitsubishi loom will set you back about $100 and an ARB $80-$90 , Either will make the job much easier (about 1-1.5 hrs) as they are correctly sized and have inline fuse / relay etc.
Just run the cables neatly/securely connect your lightes and it's done.

I looked that them and ended up purchasing Narva Ultima 175. Very happy with them

depends on your driving, long distance brightness or shorter bright and wide beam!

Agree, I find the wide beam the best because I am not hammering down the road at break neck speeds and in winding roads or the bush you need good width. Everyone has there own chooses.

The best thing is to buy the best light to suit your budget and vehicle. I personally like the Cribe Super Oscar driving lights but they will not fit on the bar and cost was outside the budget. You can purchase a good driving/stop/combo kit and add HID unit. It is like driving in your own strip of daylight.

Thanks for the info bmurray2250, it's always good to get the opinions and advice from people who have been there and done that.
Was there any definitive reasoning as to why you went with the Narva lights over the IPF ones, since you looked at the IPF's first?

I had Lightforce 170's on the Prado until some low life cut the harness and stole them. They couldn't get the mounting bolt off but was able to get it off via the tilt bolt. I have steered away from any lights that have there mounting and tilt bolts external. Narva has a single bolt and with the anti-theft bolt on it makes it harder to steal. The insurance cost and the lights value meant I was better to buy my own again. The IPF lights look and work well but I can purchase 2 pairs of Narva 175 to 1 pair of IPF. I had HID kit installed but there was a problem and waiting to get the money back and I will purchase another kit soon. The HID kit and Narva is still less than the IPF to buy. The round IPF have a better beam on paper and what I have been told, the rectangle lamps would have been the ones that fitted my bars but only had performance slightly better than the 175 at twice the price. I was looking for a light that would light up the road 400m and give a broad beam which the 175 just drops short of 400m but when the HID is in that is passed without issue. The wide beam is great and I find I can see much better in the bush than the Lightforce 170 with broad beam lens

Where did you have your lights stolen???
That's shit isn't it!
I like your way of thinking mate and will consider the narva's.
What sort of bar do you have on your prado?

Went up to Hervey Bay and stopped in cabins in Maryborough. That night my spot lights and the 4by beside mine took a walk. The police came and it must have been the biggest thing that happened in months. 3 or 4 squad cars and a finger printing teamat the seen.

I have a TJM steel bar and where the brackets and height is limiting. I like the Narva Ultima 225 and specs were great against a Super Oscar. The big thing is define your budget and purpose will help to work out the light that suit you. I had to work out the lights I liked and then work out if they would fit, sadly many of the lights I would love to use will not fit my bar.

ONLINE AUTOPARTS was the best price delivered and a Truck stop in Taree was the best price for the 225's

That's really gotta shit you! Did they end up find the other 4WD and the people who stole it and your lights?
I've just got the standard soverign bar on my prado, which I'm lead to believe that most lights will fit on this bar.
Hey thanks for the advice, working out a budget seems to be the best way to tackle most pricey add-ons, which is why I've taken your words with heed and set myself a budget..next thing to do is find out what will fit my bar, what will suit my driving and what do I like.
You mentioned that the lights you'd like wont fit your bar....if they would fit, what lights would you get?

The police hasn't found anything but that is expected. Believe it could have been people that came that weekend to watch the car racing at the show grounds. They had guts, did it 5 meters in light from my bed in the cabin.

It would be between Cibie Super Oscars or the Narva Ultima 225. I had Cibie Super Oscars driving on my RX3 and lite the road up extremely well. As many rally cars use them or Hella, it is a good starting point. The 225 comes with the protectors which most other brand need to purchase. I was hoping to install the 225, which was my first choice.

Course it is....
I wouldn't call it guts, more brazen dis-regard for anyone else's belongings or just pure stupidity!
Sweet, I'll have a look at both the Cibie Super Oscars and the Narva Ultima 225.
Thanks heaps for your input.
