an excellent unit. small, rugged, feature packed and now that we are heading to 80 uhf channels it is able to be reprogammed to suit without any hassles, so no buying a new radio.

Icom Anyone

Does anyone run an Icom 400pro and if so what do you think of it.
The radio is based on a comercial 25watt rig and at 5watt UHF CB output the radio should last for a zillion years. These radios have been around a long time now and have shown to be very reliable. I am naturally biased as most of my Ham radio's are Icom and on the few occasions when I have needed customer service Icom delivers.
Generally these radio's have a slightly better receiver than the Uniden or GME radios.
Rig is easily able to be programmed for the new 80 channels.
With uhf cb radio's you pretty much get what you pay for so there are cheaper radio's around but you probably won't get the service or reliability.

I bought the icom440 12 months ago only to find ot now that the unit as far as i know is not upgradable to the new 80 channel. Which leaves me with the only real option of purchasing a new radio. Im really pretty pissed off about this as the 440 is icoms most expensive 5w uhf.

Prestige Communications sell the icon 440 with 80 channels so I would assume that it can be upgraded. Maybe give them a call on (08) 9249 9599
