I am so Sad

So i am distined to never go camping.

Of all the Patrols in Carsales in Australia, i fly to sydney to buy the Best one. Got the mechinal report done, and it scored 8 out of 10 with some minor oil leaks needing fixing.

Go down there, looks ever better in the flesh, the 2.8TD looks well detailed, well looked after with a turbo timer and cruise control fitted.

Signed the papers and started the 1000k drive home.

This next morning it was hard to start and when it did, it knocked like crazy but disappeared after 5 minutes, but touching the trottle caused it to return.

So no i need help. The knock is loud, like clearly heard in the cabin with the windows up. One mechanic said it was probably the big end bearing over the phone, but most are booked out.

Any of you guys skilled enough to help me out?? Redbank area just out of ipswich?

Bout to tear out my hair and jump of a cliff!

car yard but the clause is have to up to 160000'ks and 10 years, mines 11 years and 170000.. sucks hey, but lucky for the AWM warrenty.

The knock is definately at the top of the engine, loudest on the inline, on the front most cylinder. How loud do the tappets get in these things?

I would recommend to check, this warranty is unconditional for a car yard sale. It covers these issues that a car yard sold a lemon

Mate i would leave a post on Patrol 4x4 - Nissan Patrol Forum forum

They will be able to help out.

Really sounds like a pre-existing problem.

Just a thought but has someone put petrol in the fuel instead of diesel?

The 2.8TD don't tend to blow up for no reason, definitely not a hand grenade engine.

I gather you have checked the oil?

Cheers

Thats awfull luck logitech! The 2.8's are a tough little motor, hopefully you will have her running like a gem again in no time.
May I ask which dealer you bought it from?

I will get it checked out ASAP and let you all know. I rang the car yard today, they certainly felt for me and are doing what they can. Problem is i am 1000k's away and they have no real way to know if i am pulling there leg either.

Cool heads on this one :)

You could take it to a Nissan service centre to get checked out, they should have no problem writing a report for you on what the problem is and submit this to the dealer you purchased from as it will be creditable.
You have the right idea! stay cool and be nice- you never know they may just come to the party some or all the way? try to just have 1 point of contact with the selling dealer also.

From experience when I purchased the Prado, a spark plug ripped out of the head. Motorama in Brisbane arranged for the repair with Toyota in Sydney as it failed 40KM north of Hornsby. 2 days and the Prado was racing around again.

Keep your chin up and thing should work out AOK

Keep us informed how you are going.

I bought my Patrol from Sydney and the drive back was very nerve racking, thanskfully it all went ok but i can imagine what you are going through after all that effort.

I'm happy to post question on the Patrol 4x4 forum as well.

Lot of the guys there have had extensive experience with the 2.8.

And don't hesitate to contact Frosty either.

Took it to a Mechanic, who had a sympathec smile from ear to ear. He was following me as a drove in and said i was creating a smoke screen. I added 2 litres of oil to it before i drove it down.

Mechanic did not want to touch it. From the sound of it, he said its probaby ripped a piston top off and will be a big job. Now ts just a waiting game for all the paper work.

Sigh..

Well the mechanic said wait until the warrenty people come back tell you where to take it. I am just trying to look at the up side that i get a new engine and may be able to get the clutch done for cheap while its out.

Mate, I suggest you park it and drive it no more. If insurance get wind of you driving it around, they may use ut as a stick to beat you with. Big knocks are no good. Major rebuild no matter which end it is. bugger!

I gather there is no possibility of taking the car back?

The warranty may not cover everything and still leave you out of pocket.

Just make sure you know what you are up for.

And even then you need to make 100% sure the engine is rebuilt properly and they don't skimp anywhere.

Cheers

The warranty covers repair to the failed item and what parts are required to fix the problem. It maybe worth getting some extra work done which will cost you. You should still end up with a good engine
