Thanks for having me. I'm only 52, Buggered if I know
how I got to this age so quick.
I was only 30 a while back. I still haven't got to do the
Long drive around this beautiful country.

But I will, It's been a dream forever.
I started my 4x4 journey in a series 1.
The old girl had been retired years earlier, so you can imagine
what it was like. I spent a lot of time twirling the little stick back and forth
seating valves under Dad's direction.

The old dear had no brakes at all, and the pin that keeps the gear stick
in the rite spot was missing, I was the only one who new where to
find those wandering gears.
And you needed to, The down shifting was the braking system.

Anyway, I will finish this life story another time.
Thanks again. And look forward to long and happy posting
here at 4x4...
All the best Terry.

Welcome aboard Terry. My introduction to 4x4 was also in an old series 1. Tough old beasts that you can't kill with a big stick. Look forward to sharing a few yarns with you.

Cheers

Thanks Cliff

Yea mate, I bet you could write a few books
on series 1 stories.
Do you chase the yellow stuff as a side line as well.
I bought a cheap detector a while back, and managed to
find a missing line pin i'd been searching for for some time on
our block.

But have had no experience looking for Gold.
Another one of those dreams i have.
Thanks for the welcome Cliff.

Hi Terry,

Welcome to 4x4earth. There must be some nice country out in the Whitsundays. What is it like offroad?

Cheers,

James

Places to go

Yea mate theres a heap of off road trips available.
A lot of dams within an hour or so. Some big Barra being caught as well.

Like 1 metre plus big. We have a local tackle shop that takes
people on day trips, we get to see the smiling faces in the local
paper, proudly straining to hold the catch.lol

Theres roads that link up with the coal fields to the west.
And west of Mackay you can drive to Eungella national park
then on to the Eungella Dam, Keep going and you end up in
coal mining country and eventually into cattle country and
the gem fields.

A bit further north of here, you can head west from Bowen
and out to Collinsville.

My preference is camping on the Islands, No 4x4s allowed, Dunno why.
Although I did have a series 2a as a work vehicle on Hamilton Island
for a few years.
It had the old 179 conversion, and would pull the headlights out of
those old tojos at the time, mid 80s..tons of fun..

But yea, theres plenty of places to see thats for sure.
All the best Terry

Hey Terry,

Your a lucky man. It is beautiful country up there. Been to Hamilton Island a couple of times with work and it is great. I jogged up to Passage Peak in the morning a couple of times and watched the sunrise, it is spectacular.

Have fun!
