Hilux chassis query

On the underneath of the left hand side of the chassis crossmember (behind the transmission housing) on Hiluxes up to late 90's there is a rectangular plate which houses a rubber mounted weight. It appears to be an anti vibration device or something...???

Any Hilux experts there who can tell me exactly what its purpose is and how it actually does whatever its meant to do?

Going to need a photo, as I have no idea of what you are trying to describe.

Thanks croozza. It was just a guess on my part but I still have no idea how it works. Mine was all gummed up with dried mud and, after I cleaned it all out and got it moving I noticed no differences when I was driving.
