Peter here!

I'm new to the whole 4x4ing. Recently we bought a Toyota Prado TD and are looking forward to a few adventures. Great website and an excellent idea with the GPS files!!! what GPS brand do I need to open these?

BTW I've got a tom tom..

Are you running TTMaps or just the standard TomTom navigator software. some of the TomTom's can run TTMaps which can track and maps. Check out ttMaps

I've decided yesterday (after spending around 4 hours playing with it) to get Oziexplorer and a garmin USB gps. Hema maps look good too and since I have an unutilised laptop at home i'll use it as my gps screen :)

now i need an inverter to power up the laptop on longer trips.

i wonder if anyone has 'hardwired' an inverter? I'm thinking of placing it under the passangers seat and running some wires under the carpet if possible? most inverters have the cigarette plug but that'd just look messy

GXL it is :) d4d, very happy with it, plenty of grunt for what I need and excellent fuel economy (so far 10L/100km in the city! and 9.4L on the highway). Got the GXL due to the air con vents going all the way to the end of the car and other little goodies (abs and cruise are a must these days).

To be quite honest the car will perform some soccer mum duties however I've been taking it out on some weekend trips already
