Hema Explorer App android issues

G'day legends, just a quick question I've got the Hema Explorer app on my Phone and have had it for years and it's been great, however I haven't used it all the covid noise I haven't been able to get out.

I'm going away next weekend and I'm having some issues with it, it won't let me place a new waypoint searching via Lat/Long, and the waypoints I do have it won't tell me the notes/name etc for it so, has there been an update has this now been moved to the premium version? Or is it just glitching?

Thanks in advanced for any help you can give

I had this app on our Pixel 3 phone and it was really buggy, had a terrible experience using it and I thought it was the HEMA product itself. Someone who follows our channel offered to lend me their HX1 & HN7 for a couple weeks after using both (struggled with the HX1 at the start compared to the HN7) I decided to be done with the app and just went out and brought a HX1 mainly since it has trip tracking and its great for us to review after the fact for our videos.

https://cloud.hemaexplorer.com/public/VqZiYihi3SyPXqJHtXajcAxk here is a trip I saved recently.

I strongly recommend to also budget to buy a paper map as while technology is great, if you do travel to remote areas its always good to know you have an alternative to switch too incase say the HEMA bugs out, loses your saved offline maps (happened before) or worse just doesn't charge (also happened before).

We also just purchased a VMS to compare this too and we will be pushing a video out soon to compare them in some places to travel too, but so far to save you the trouble give up on the HEMA app for Android, you'll end up throwing your phone out the window haha.

Good luck!

Yeah I've used the VMS and Hema standalone units (and honestly they suck) also be wary with the VMS unit the screens on them like to break, really easily I went through 3 screens in like 2 months and 2 units in 8 months they just generally terible.
To be honest I've had no issues with the app or ozi explorer and have generally found the app alot better then any of the stand alone units until yesterday, I don't know why they've changed it, unless its a ploy to get me to pay for a yearly subscription which is fine but I don't want to pay if I'm still going to have the same issues as they're the 2 main things I use the app for.

And yes I have lot of papermaps but you can't really beat the app imho for quick on the fly location checks and planning

Also if you haven't sus out Ozi explorer its easily the best mapping software around however you do need a computer to use and makes it a bit hard when you're on the road. Also the hema app has trip tracking if you turn it on

For most basic, just tell me where I am and give me what's around me I found the HN7 to be the best just not at fancy with all the other features but does what an off road GPS should do, rather quickly as well.

Didn't know you had tried the standalones, also never used Ozi explorer so will give that a try for maybe trip planning. Cheers Mate!

Tbh ozi is easist the most technical and in depth mapping software around it will take a while to get used to be once you do you can upload your custom track to a standalone unite or the ozi app and have it tell you turn by turn navigation and everything its honestly great, the only downfall really is that you're limited to what you can do on the device and really need a laptop or computer to do all the harder stuff

Hi Guy's . I also made the fatal mistake in updating to the latest version 3.0.13 Nov 17th 2020 which has taken the ability to interact like before with the screen . The touch and hold to create a quick route was very handy . Ozi is my main nav tool so really don't use Hema much as the Hema maps on my ozi are prob the same .What i did is go back to Hema Explorer version 3.0.4 this worked best for me with Android 10. How i went about it was, totally uninstalled the latest version ,ran my cleaner to wipe any left of files and reinstall an earlier version 3.04 . The app picks up you have paid for it when you sign in and allows you to download the maps. I save all nav apk files from previous versions . You can also download the apks online .Its not stealing as you have actually have paid for it . After you download the file you first right click the apk file and scan with your virus program to check for malware. The one marked is free of any malware according to my program. You then copy the downloaded apk to the root of your internal memory, that's the same place where your camera DCIM, folder is (not inside it.) Then go to your file explorer (my files ect) and direct it to the internal memory and click Hema apk --- Install from outside source's may have to be ticked in Settings/ security. https://m.allfreeapk.com/hema-explorer,780439/. DON'T UPDATE IT AGAIN. Works for me. It appears Hema degraded the new version to sell you Hema Ultimate (White icon) and Hema 4wd .Edit.. turn off auto update in Google Play /Settings /Do not auto update.

Ignore that last bit, just spend the $10 for a month of premium and nope still got the same problems... looks like they've just gone and ruined a perfectly good app

Yeah I know, but thought paying the $$ premium could be easier then going back through update files, and yeah it doesn't. Cheers for the help I'm going to have to go down that route

Good Stuff mate. I did this with Mud Maps a while ago when they stopped supporting Android.
Will have to do it again with Hema. Bloody annoying, as now I will have to turn off auto update I guess.

Cheers,

Yes turn off Auto offdate . Go to Google Play/settings/ Do not auto update
Hey Mauriceb,
Your a legend, I followed your advise and now have all my saved tracks and routes back again. At the moment the only thing the programme won't do is sync with the cloud. But hey at least I've 98% working again, I think have I can work with that.
Thanks
Dennis

Yeah. Its a good work around for now.
Also it should still sync okay.

You need to ensure you have sync enabled from the settings.
Also if you click on last sync it will manually sync to the cloud.
