Help Required re 80 series Fuel Injector Pump/Taco Problem

Apologies if this is not in the correct area - please move if required.

I have an 80 Series L/C which has at some stage prior to me purchasing it, had the fuel injector pump replaced. The problem is that although the FIP works, it is off a model (unknown) which did not have a taco (I believe this is a quite common occurance). As a result the pump does not have a pickup or sender unit for which I can connect the taco to.

It is a standard 1HZ motor (240,000 kms). I am looking at putting a turbo on it later this year and hence wish to have a working taco prior to install.

I have investigated various solutions which are as follows:

1. Replace FIP with one that does have the pickup/sender unit.
- The major problem I have with this is purely economics. I have been able to source a recon pump ($900) from Bundaberg. Travel costs, install, calibration etc, I expect it to cost a total of about $2000 all up. (then add up the cost of turbo/install on top of that)

2. Using the in dash Taco attempt to connect to alternator.
- I have heard that there is an aftermarket kit that can allow a pickup of the alternator.
- I have spoken to various mechanics, 4WD specialists in Brisbane, however everybody seems to have heard of it but no-one knows who makes it, where I can get one and find some-one to fit and calibrate it.

3. Use an aftermarket Taco connected to the alternator.
- Main question is it possible to do this on a diesel motor.

So can anyone please help me with identifying the aftermarket kit, and possibly someone reputable to fit it.

Regards

I'm not very helpful but as an alternator runs off a belt drive it's not going to be very useful for engine speed (if it does infact have a sensor output)
Should be able to google some info on the 1HZ motor fairly easily though.

Hi Landcuiser 80
Ring the guys from Diesel Australia, they will help you out, also ring On Track 4wd Centre for your turbo, it could be more economical to do the pump at the same time as the turbo as they have to reset pump timing and add stuff to you pump.
