Help... Lost in the world of diff locks!

I run air locker rear and a truetrac in the front even when i just had the truetrac it made a big difference.
Its good as its set and forget. Doesnt affect my steering like a locker would.
With this combo and smallish tires ive done most of the hard tracks in high country no problems

No i give it a little left foot brake and it locks up again. Kinda hard to with a manual at times but i manage it.

I put a truetrac in the rear and it made heaps of difference so I put one in the front as well, I constantly go where twin locked cars go with some left foot braking. Not as good as full lockers but not far from it and who wants to make it to easy anyway?
I still like a challenge every now and then;)

Just for something different I have a Detroit locker in the rear and a Russian made torsen in the front. To save confusion I usually just say trutrac in the front. I find this set up great , don't have to think about turning anything on . They are always there and always work
Except
When I get a front wheel in the air ( I havnt mastered using the brake and clutch and accelerator at the same time )

Then the detroit in the back should at least push you through until the front wheels are back on the ground.

i have an ARB air locker in the rear of my 100. A few points.

positives:
1. The locker itself is awesome and you really notice the extra traction
2. I have the ARB compressor that also pumps up tyres and it is also a great bit of kit (as long as you don't lose the tiny little piece of steel that clamps it to the tyres....)

negatives:
1. I have had the o rings replaced under warranty (you will know you need this when you get diff oil back up the air hose line...), apparently an install mistake
2. Then the entire rear diff had to be rebuilt after noticing a heap of metal shavings on the magnetic sump plug. To ARB's credit though, they did it all under warranty and without fuss.
3. the air hose into the rear diff itself is plumbed into the side of the diff house (pumpkin). Apparently this is the only way to do it on my vehicle. The problem is that i have had tree branches flick up and rip the hose out which means no air pressure which means no locker and no ability to re-inflate tyres.

so - i would ask about how the air hose is tapped. If it is in the side, then go an elocker as there is an unnecessary risk of failure . I would go an elocker anyway but if you do go pneumatic, then get it installed by someone who will stand by the install warranty.

I'm also on the hunt for a locker, for the rear initially in the 80. I went into a TJM store yesterday and they've quoted me $3800 fitted for just the rear. Anyone know if they're taking the piss or not? I mentioned I've got a twin cylinder 150l/m compressor but they sort of alluded that I should get theirs. But either way, $3800 for one rear locker fitted? Seems steep.

Yeah, I understand that Mikehzz, I'm more wondering about the $3800 slug for one diff lock.

Yes $3800 fitted for just the rear is a bit rich esp. I had a Harrop eLocker fitted in the front for $1900. (have a factory rear elocker). The Harrop eLocker is generally not on the cheaper side either.

Yeah it's an 80 series, so I'd have thought it a fairly simple job. I'm only wanting the rear done at this stage. I'd get both done if I had more coin.

Dizzle it can be involved, but a good Diff Services workshop will only charge you $550-650 to do it depending on the condition of your diff. I would recommend you source the locker and have a real Diff place install it, these are not something I would take a chance on. Nerang Diff Services aren't too too far from you and I've used them before. They do great work. They also do work for Tekno performance etc. Small shop but good service.

A TJM store was clearing out lockers for the Pajero for $600 and I picked up the compressor from the Caravan and camping show for $195
I had a local diff specialist fit it, and that was a tad more expensive than I was anticipating at $1300. But around $2100 all up
Got to lock it in over the long weekend and am very happy. The hill wasn't overly demanding and I would have got up without the locker, but activating it made for a nicer, smoother, slower drive up

So a different TJM store quoted me $2500 or a shade under today. Sounds much more realistic.
I think when I save the coin I will buy it and have a specialist diff shop do the work. Been advised to get a solid pinion spacer too.

Independent suspension is a fair bit more involved than solid axles to get to the diffs hence the extra coin.
