BEK
4x4 Earth Contributer
The Friday started with breakfast at the chapel with our gracious hosts Grumpy and Deb laying out a magnificent spread of bacon and eggs, juice and coffee and tea.
Saddled up at around 9am and head off to Sale for a fuel break before heading into Dargo for lunch. Two convoys were BEK Grumpy Gunna Mick Disco1 & Traveller. Group 2 were 4x4 Bubba Fox Shooter & Knackers
I should have booked this one
But I got this one. Both have great memorabilia and lots to look at
Food was great sorry about the focus should have used flash.
Last fuel in Dargo at the General store and then we headed off.
Grumpy, Traveller, Gunna and Disco 1 headed off to do a reccie to ensure the site would be large enough for all the vehicles at the camp site (some rumours from Friends of friends that thought it would be too small) and the rest followed Knackers in.
Here is some of the spectacular scenery showing how robust our great bush is with strong regeneration already occurring.
Something very odd happened on the way in but I can’t remember what it was, it’ll come to me soon, I HOPE
Came across Seldom Seen Hut
Here is our camp ground
Who’s spot was this, may have something to do with the thing I forgot.
Later that evening Fox Shooter and Bushnut rocked into camp and we settled around the camp fire.
Saturday saw a leisurely start and some of the group collected a little bit of wood.
Some went for a drive and knackers Bushnut and BEK headed off to meet Gilly, Dirty9, Falcon, Mutley and Robz.
Here is a picture of the former mess hall at Turntable camp. there is a total of five huts but the other four are very basic with no doors.
Caught up with them and as we started to lead them into camp we had a call from Watt so Knackers and I headed to rendezvous with them while Bushnut lead the first group in.
Great night around the fire on Saturday night
The winner of the Dawson City Master Chef was Mutley and Roseann. Bubba and I were impressed by all those that provided a meal. The winners received two bottles of wine for their fine performance
Sunday saw two groups head out for the Haunted Stream track and another group do some other tracks in the area.
Here are some pics of the run.
This is some private farm land what a great place to live
Lunch in Swifts Creek pub as the bakery was closed and the group was led back by a young lady in her first time as a 4wheeler across tracks as I navigated.
Sunday saw a more subdued crowd but still fun around the camp fire with a group breaking into sing song. The only comment I heard was from a senior member of the forum who was frustrated they didn’t get the words right. He was about to get up and join in but it was a bit cold.
Next morning one of the newbies Watt found slivers of ice on his fly (his tent one that is for all you Qlders)
Pack up and 3 convoys departed gradually for Swifts creek and the long drive home. Rossco, Gilly, Bushnut and Bubba towed in full camper trailers and given the tracks it wouldn’t have been fun.
My little trailer, in comparison, was difficult enough to get done the entrance to the camp from main track especially after the ground gave way and my front wheel fell in a major hole (up past the front bumper)
On the way home I spotted this bloke (apparently famous) on the side of the road
Final views before we had to leave this great area
Special thanks to Grumpy, Knackers, Bushnut, Gunna and Robz for all their work that made everything goes so smoothly over the weekend.
Knackers volunteered to stay at camp on Sunday to look after the camp which made everyone feel relaxed about heading for over 5 hours and Rossco and Bubba helped collect firewood for the Sunday night and some more camp oven action
Another successful outing for 4x4 earth so now with all the track closures we now look for a September run but more to the next big target of Otooles in mid November.
