Haunted Stream Track

After some info on times and standards on the Haunnted stream track as we are thinking of filming it for an eposide for going 4wd. Starting from Tambo Crossing and heading along the Haunted stream track, then making our way to Dargo. Has anyone done this, and how long would it take.

Our Club did the Haunted stream track last Sunday From tambo crossing to Dawson City and then back to Swifts Creek. Took less than 3 hours to Dawson city with a smoko break at Stirling with more than 50 water crossings (not deep). Refer to the tracks list for some photos of our trip. This area has a lot of history as it was a large gold mining area so a good research into its history would be good for your filming etc. Around Stirling are many old relics of the gold mining days (water race, boilers, mine tunnels, etc etc). Have a great trip as it is very picturesque. Regards Alby

ACMCD..... fancy doing this track with my mate and 4 kids. Are there any good camping spots to make it more of a weekend away. We are thinking of doing the King Billy goat Track coming home too. Glad you had a safe trip.

There is a small campsite along the track, not a bad spot either, we stopped and had lunch there when we did it.

Swifts Creek van Park is $12 per vehicle per night, with hot showers and a laundry, you pay at the general store, great value i reckon.

There are 54 crossings:eek:

Have done this track a few times in the last few weeks. Fairly easy going, although track closures during the snow season prevent people from visiting the area. I can imagine over winter the creek crossings could become quite hazardous with run off from the snow, in places the track has potential to become very muddy! There is a nice open area at Dawson City where you would be able to camp. Also a lot mining history along the way. Was there a fortnight ago and with bad weather forecast we had to leave early into the trip after the heavy rain started. Actually got to the top of a ridge where you intersect with Engineers Rd and it was snowing quite heavily. A good place for some easy four wheel driving, but still very enjoyable.

Sound like a great track. Have put this one on the list of tracks to do, and not that far from Beaconsfield. Will make a day of it.

Yep, still on my list of things to do .....

We were down there last January (08) and it was still closed by a locked gate somewhere near Dogtown (IIRC) due to the fires (06-07).

Stayed at Swifts Creek and would agree with Baz that its a great spot and excellent value for money. We booked in for a night and extended it day by day, every day ...
stayed a week.
Did a trip out and back every day ... heaps of tracks to do and heaps to see all around there.

Definitely interested, if anyone's heading out that way.

Sounds good. We are thinking of doing it over easter. 50 easy river crossings sounds great. Not too dangerous (hopefully). The kids love river crossings.

Cheers,

James

Took a stock Hilux with us through there from Tambo to Dawson City about 3 weeks ago, camped at
Dawson. Great track, nothing that hard(dry weather) and a beautiful area.
Definately going back to this track again.
