Hi,

I have just dropped my tyre size from 35" to 33" however still have my diff ratios set on 4.88:1 Does anyone know if this combination of tyre size and diff ratio will suit the 2005 GU 3.0l Patrol I've got?

Otherwise what is the pros and cons of this set up? Do I need to drop the diff ratios to a 4.56:1?

Any comments advise would be appriciated!

Thanks!

Hi,

I want to set up the car more as a economical tourer then previuosly just going bbig tyres and all...

At this stage Monday to Friday the car is used by my wife as it is her day to day car picking kids up from school etc......

Previously it was good with the 35" tyres but now that I am not neccessary out there looking for hardcore 4wding apart form camping and touring and of cause the occasional hard tracks...:D the 35" was big and harder to handle for Louise then compared to the 33"

33" I believe are better all rounder as well and good with power for towing, fuel consumption etc......

I am considering a second set of tyres and going to a 37" should I want to take it on hardcore trips etc.... I do have a Marks Speedo correction box which allows me to fix the speedo with a flick of a switch form 33" to 37" tyres.

With my existing diff ratio (not standard) going down to a 33' has given me alot of high end, I can get 100km to 130km/h very very quickly! the revs also is not too bad on highway but I don't often drive at 130km/h so it does not matter to me. I just dont want the wrong set of diff ratio with the 33" tyres that will damage something else etc....

Thanks!

You can go a long way on a set of 33's anyway just need to pick your lines better rather than more go pedal, PS missed out on some fun tracks up at Strathbogie Aaron!:D;)

G'Day Brian.......

You are absolutely right... it's all about picking the right line!:D

Yeah I know i missed out but could not get away from work on that Saturday with lots of Auctions etc... was free on the Monday and went for a day trip to Bunyip again just to explore some other tracks we did'nt cover the other week...

No one got stuck so was a fun day too...

Can't wait till the next "gathering"

BTW I got the new BFG MT KM2 and I love it! I actually (at the moment) prefer it more then the MTZ's............:)

Thanks.

The 4.88s are not japanese gear sets but italian made and are inferior to the jap nissan OEM sets.
They are also reputedly hard to set the backlash properly on.

Id go 4.625 Nissan OEM ratios out of a 2.8 GQ/GU, if yours is an auto ZD30 its got 4.375 diffs, if its a manual it has 4.11s for the 05 model year. It will have the manual revving approx 12.5% higher on the highway, 5.7% for the auto.

Hi BennoGU28,

Thanks for your wealth of informaton........ I found out it currently has a 4.56 not 4.88 and so far seems to be ok on the rpm so I will leave everything as is for now...

Thanks

No worries mate, there is no such thing as a 4.56 patrol diff ratio, could you mean 4.625? What revs does it do at a speedo indicated 100km/hr? Also auto or manual?

Hi BennoGU28,

I was told 4.56 however it could be 4.625.... at 100km the revs are sitting on about 2250rpm and it is auto...

Cheers!

The ZD30 auto will sit on around 2050 to 2100rpm for 100km/hr, so with 4.625s that gives you a theoretical of around 2170 to 2220rpm.

You have 4.625s, lucky bugger.
