So I gather you are pushing the pin in to make the transfer case enguage. What about when you select low range. Do you do this manually as well? When I had mine I do recall someone making a lever operation to get 4WD and 4wd Low range. I never had issues with the transfer case actuator so did not investigate further. Trouble is the web site that it was on is now closed and I never bothered to keep that info. Jacden who also had a very modified GW like me might have something. He sometimes gets on here.

In my case it was the front shaft selector motor not working. This motor is located on the passenger side of the front diff and half shafts. The LHS shaft is split between the diff and the wheel and when you select 4WD a sleeve slides over the split and you then get drive to the front wheels. This motor is prone to getting water in it and then it stops working. When I had my car replacing that motor was expensive. So I disconnected it from power and slid the sleeve so that I always had drive to the front wheels. With free wheeling hubs when I wanted 4WD I just got out of the car and turned the hubs. The light would blink because the car detected that the motor was not working. A lot of 4WDs brands that use this type of system to select drive to the front hub have problems with that motor. It is in a vulnerable spot. You can do all the work easily from under the car.

Once you unbolt the motor it is easy to see the piece that slides. The motor drive a "fork". You may have to rock the car back and forth to line up the splines. Once done, manually screw the fork motor so it lines up with the slot on the piece that slides. Bolt it up and your done. You will need free wheel hubs or else you will get gear " wind up". Some one is selling them on Ebay. AVM is the brand I used.
