GQ Radius Arm bushes

I am about to replace the radius arm bushes on my GQ. While they are not totally buggered they do need replacing after close on 393,000km. I am off on a hard x country trek soon so the ole bus has to be shipshape.

My Gregogry's manual states that one has to remove the tie rod ball joint from the steering knuckle to do this job. Is this really necessary or can one get away with not removing it? I am not as young and agile as I used to be so any work not necessary will be a bonus. I have a bloke down the street who will press the bushes out and in for me.

Cheers

you can't be that old your still driving
Yes you must remove at least one end of the tierod
removing the tie rod is not hard at all.
Undo the nut hit the end of the knuckle with a hammer & the tie will come loose
Two minute job

Thanks for your reply. I went to the Patrol Forum and got similar answers, quicker :) In the end I bought a tie rod end remover which made the job easier. Yeah, I'm not that old but suffer from bad osteo-arthritis which makes buggerising under a vehicle a pain. In the end I bought Genuine Parts from Nissan at a cost ! and fitted them after having a mechanic press them out and in for me. The old ones were flogged out and now the 'klunking' noise under the firewall is no longer there :) Each side took about 5 hours to remove and reinstall due to the fact that the front axle moved when removing the arms. Wot fun...... but a happy ending...lol. Cheers
