with ozi explorer and you are given a mapping grid referance to "go to" , how to you find where it is and place a go to line?
also the name search is not working, any help would be great thanks
as i cant seem to get any hepl from ozi
benno
name search appears to need a DB loaded. The find and Long/Lat appears to be manual search. I am no OziExplorer guru. Recommend to read the help files, it may help.
I've had Ozi for a few years but haven’t used it all that much so I’m sure there is a better way.
I'd open a map large enough to cover the area, create a waypoint using the provided coordinates, zoom in on the waypoint and use the "find other maps at this position" button.
I am pretty sure the way point is the way to go. Then you can use navigate control panel to navigate to that waypoint. There is also a marker icon on the toolbar (red and yellow circle) that when you click puts a waypoint at your current position and automatically names it.
I used this to great affect on Moreton Island. I set a waypoint at our campsite this way, saved the file and to get home I just navigated to the waypoint amnd it told me to the nearest metre how far I was from camp.
With the name search you need to open a database. I downloaded the Natmap name database which has DB's for the whole of Australia (and also broken up by state) in Ozi Format from somewhere (probably from a link on the Ozi web site). You open the database, and type in the name. Big databases are slow, so I just use the state one open by default. Double click the names you want (if there are duplicates) and it will take you there. Then you can use the right click find map at position if you are on the wrong map.
Cool Brian, the good thing is the Natmap DB has every official place name in Australia, towns, hills, mountains, creek, rivers, property names out west.
Hi Benno, I am going to assume that you want to use moving map when you say you want a go to line.
I am having trouble posting a reply to this so as soon as it is fixed I will post a reply
Hi Benno,
I just found what i think you are looking for when only provided with grid reference.
Under the "Map" menu, select "Find maps...., "From Entered Position"
rodw, thanks for the name search info, one of those things I wanted to setup but not had the time to work it out.
Hi Benno here is the answer to your question that I have been fighting with to post.
In the waypoint list from the list menu click on the button for the type of coordinates you have. Next at the bottom of the waypoint list click on the Add button then enter in the details. Now you can find the map to see your waypoint by clicking on the waypoint in the list to select it then click on the find map and / or the "crosshair" button on the toolbar. Your waypoint will now be on the screen.
To go to the waypoint from where you are now you need to be using moving map & be connected to the NMEA data output of your GPS connected to your laptop. In the Navigation menu click on Navigate to then click on Waypoint from a list. Click on the waypoint to select it then click on the set button. You should have a straight line from the pointer to the waypoint.
Also check out the help files in Ozi as there are some good tutorials there.
