Gday all. I have just joined the site as it looks too good and informative not to. Unfortunately I found out on the weekend that my trusty 60 series has dropped a piston or set of rings and needs a rebuild. :(

Was very surprised at how much parts are for these not to mention the day light robbers (many diesel mechanics in the Brisbane area) and the ridiculous prices quoted to fix the old girl. Starting at 3k and up to 12k. I kid you not. I had a couple of colourful discussions with a few of them. I only paid $7500 for it and I refuse to pay that again to rebuild a 21 year old motor.

So I am in the hunt for old 60 series of any condition to get my hands on. I can pick them up from pretty much anywhere on the eastern sea board for the right price. I'm after vehicles for free or small cash outlay going or not. I need some other parts for my truck but when I have them I'll donate parts to those that need them.

Contact me anytime, thanks a lot, Jake

Hi Jake and welcome. The problem of doing a rebuild on one piston is you should do the rest. The option is call around the wreckers or use the hotline which gets a group wreckers to look for an engine. Give Repco a call, they may have a rebuilt motor.

B!tch with Grunt selling off parts off his truck. Look under selling section. It appears he has sold the accessories off, not sure on the motor it could be petrol

Thanks!

Hi all, thanks for the welcome fellow lovers of off roading. I hunted around the country yesterday for a reco/replacement motor of any description and found reco 2H non turbo motors exchange for $2500 right here in Brisbane. I just have to bolt my turbo onto it.

There are 12HT motors out there reco'd for upto $10,000. Big bikkies for what I believe to be a pretty damn preferbale donk for a 60 series.

I also found a complete Sahara vehicle running, registered and in good nick for $1500. So I might grab that and drive it until the rego runs out and transplant the motor when the rego is up. Not a bad find I think.

I also sourced a heap of 12HT motors from a bloke in the states and in the very near future will go there and organise for them to be shipped back to Brisbane. Clearly they will be sold for profit, but not at the ridiculous price the daylight robbers are asking. I'd rather get them into vehicles than make a million dollar sale on each motor.

So if you're interested in a 12HT or know someone that is or could be, get them in contact with me so I know how many to bring back. They'll be checked by my Diesel mechanic swami guru before they are sold and will have a condition report of sorts or can be rebuilt ( for a reasonable/affordable price ) if required.

I'm sick of trying to avoid being screwed for money by shady or greedy greasers, so I plan to undercut the mongrels and share the love of affordable upgrades.

Have to go now, big day of pulling apart my tojo!!

Keep it off the black stuff and shiny side up!!

Welcome, and LONG LIVE THE 60 !

I agree, Long live the 60's..... I have one, and they are great. How much are you looking at for these engines. I have a tired 2h, and was looking at a rebuild in the near future, but I have also got some rediculous prices for rebuilding. I have built kick arse V8's for less, and got 11 sec quarters for that money.... Go Figure.....:rolleyes::eek::eek:

Welcome to the site. I look forward to the prices.....;):D
