Have the Garmin turned on when travelling (Turn tracking on in tools & settings) A blue line will show where you have been.

Once home you can than connect to map source and upload onto your computer (Where you have been is usually tracks (you get a number of options Tracks routs Favorites.

You can play around with the track and edited it to the part you wish to use/save (that is the delete the trip getting to where you are going The trips to the shops and trips getting home.

Its a bit fiddly but you can actually convert that track to a route

Its worth noting that this unit only keeps a 1Mb file of tracks, and when the tracklog file gets this big it drops off the oldest segments as it adds the new segments on.

I save the traclog file periodically particularly when on bit trips, as it will only keep about 1000 to 1500km. The file is called "current.gpx"

You do not require mapsource to save this, just plug the unit into a pc via USB, and then search for the file on the unit, save it to the PC or a packup location, I usually add the date.

This file can then be loaded into any GPS or mapping prodcut that can read a GPX file, like Google Earth, Ozi Explorer, Compe GPS, Global Mapper etc.

You will require a copy of mapsource (garmin) or some other program that will communicate with your garmin

On your garmin turn trip log to show (found in tools, than maps) This will give a blue line as to where you have been. (It pays to clear your log trip trip from time to time other wise you can get too much information)

Once you have completed your trip conect throgh usb to computer

open mapsource than connect to garmin and upload the tracks and routes as required.

I have shonky maps poade on the SD card for the garmin (you can put them on chip in the garmin (follow their instructions I use the SD card as I find that more convienent and only plug it in when necessary)

You can than install shonky maps into mapsource and from their drop down menu select various ones for planing a trip

Once you have the track in mapsource you can delete parts of track by double clicking the track and deleting unnecessary parts such as the trip there and back (Your normal road trip)

Hope this works for you, Play around with the garmin and mapsource and have some fun.

I have the same unit + mapsource and have no problem downloading my tracks BUT is it possible OR does anyone know how to once saved, return a particular track back to the Garmin head unit without having to make a whole heap of waypoints?
