front diff bounce

Hi all ive got some problems with the front end on my pathfinder D21. When i have to reverse in 4x4 i get alot of diff bounce in the front. so much so my tail shaft is hitting my extractors (shakes the hell out of the hole car). it also hits when i use engine braking or turn sharp going forward. has any one come across this before.

thanks for your help

Gday Buddy.
First things first. I would be looking at your front diff bushes. It sounds to me that they are pretty badly worn and are allowing the front diff to rotate under drive conditions. I know that the front is IFS but the front diff is still mounted on bushes. So have a look there.

i'd be doing the same, i just had a look at my dads d21 navara, and there is one bush in front of the diff centre and then the diff itself bolts to a cross member which looks to be held on with bushes, and there may have been one more under the bash plate, the best way to check these is to put it up and stands and use a big screw driver or lever and move the bushes and check for cracks, also check anything it bolts to for cracks or being broken, if you still cant find anything after that then get somebody to drive the car while it is on stands (you may have to use the brakes to load it up) and lay under there and have a look.

it does sound unusual though, as my dads d21 navara has done 380,000 odd and hasnt had anything like that happen, and it has had a very very hard life towing things off road and going where it shouldnt

hope i could be of some help

thanks

Thanks for the tips, ive had a look and i think it is the bushes on the diff cross member, if i lift it just with my hand i can move it about 2mm. it could be a common problem cause the extractors i fitted have a plate welded to them right where the front uni joint hits it. but now i cant find the bushes, ive tried repco, supercheap, autobarn... any one have any idea?

i use pep's usually for my parts but if you have tried the other big names already i doubt they would have them. maybe you will need to try a nissan specialist or dealer or worst case from the wreckers
