Ford Service complete JOKE

So just gave Ford a quick call to get the dual battery/smart alternator turned off on my Ranger PX1, they wanted $150 for a 5 minute job which i think is absolute disgrace, just validates my decision to avoid them like the plague......

Is there a software that you can buy of eBay??Like Toyota. They have Toyota tech stream. You can get that on eBay

Try a different dealer. Sunbury Ford did mine.
If yours is PX2 or 3 I think you may be able to use Forescan.

Yeah you can get a Forscan for $40-$70 which i might look at doing, didnt really want to bother with it for a once off use, but might just do it

People think dealers are a total rip off, which in some respects and IMO they are, BUT keep in mind the overheads and ask yourself how much would it cost them??
150 to me is reasonable to plug in their diagnostic equipment and use their software for a random drop in, do it during a full service and the price might drop considerably.
No such thing as a 5 minute job....

You can get the full featured trial version of Forscan for free for 60 days so you'll just need a Windows laptop with Bluetooth and an OBD adaptor. I used this one in my Ranger PX3 and it works flawlessly: https://www.obdlink.com/products/obdlink-mxp/ also good for making dashboards for monitoring EGT, Trans fluid temps etc on your phone

I also used Forscan to adjust tyre diameter so my speedo is spot on, and "Dark Mode" so the car doesn't light up like a xmas tree when you're camping and open a door through the night :-D

I remember seeing the smart alternator setting in there, but since I have a DCDC installed I didn't bother with it...

I had mine turned off after about 2 years on my PX1, local dealer asked where I bought it from, said them and they did it for free. They did say that if I bought it at another dealer I would have been charged.

Hi Neddy
Try this site:
https://www.saeb.net/
join up and post an intro and you get access to all the info you need for forscan. Not sure if a PX1 can be done, but the info will be in there. Took about 30 seconds to do my PX2 after the dealer told me it couldn't be done. I think you are in Melbourne, some of the friendly blokes on the site often offer to do the deed for people who are local.
Good luck with it.
Cheers

Hi again

I was just on the Forscan site, adjusting my PX2 and saw that there is in fact a way to switch off the smart alternator on the PX1.
Forscan really isn't that scary, you just need a pc laptop and I'd suggest buying one of SAEBs OBDII dongles, they are cheap and hassle free.
